i wounderd about a conecting strap for stability also
Treehopper2 you have the wheels turning in my head, keep in mind the lug nuts are loose! But why couldn’t you use something very similar to the paracord gear hanger diy. On a larger scale of course, one continuous rope around the tree with the tag end being attached to the loop end via a prussic and carabiner then have three or four larger prussic loops for your feet? That would allow you to “walk around” the tree muck like a ROS. Hell, you might even be able to use your lineman’s for this.

amen brother thats why we are hereI see what what your saying but I’m not sure that would work but it would be easy to try.
I feel something will come of this topic that is useable it just may take a lot of prototypes and testing but heck that’s half the fun.
The best thing about this forum to me is a lot of people work together to solve a problem.

I 2TC climb and will use 1 side of the stirrup while climbingDo you use your sturips to climb or just as a platform.mine where just for climbing.i didn't think of using it for a Platorm.even just to knock a couple steps off the ring of steps.would be cool
Where do your feet go on a larger diameter tree? I wouldn't want to sit duck footed for too long. You could make an adjustable band but then where does the excess band go on a smaller tree? So, I made an initial attempt at putting the soft platform to use. Here are some notes. Keep in mind, I'm old and fat as well as currently ate up with the COVID.
1. I picked a tree with pretty aggressive bark.
2. Boom mic pointed at feet
3. Mobility around the tree is actually very easy.
4. Noise is a concern. Slow and small keeps noise down.
5. Spent 1 hour in it and it's very comfortable.
6. With Mobility around the tree there is no off side shot.
7. When placing the feet, go band first then feet.
This is here to beat up! Let me know your thoughts.

Sam as a ring of steps. The main strap does adjust and the excess material pleats between the feet.Where do your feet go on a larger diameter tree? I wouldn't want to sit duck footed for too long. You could make an adjustable band but then where does the excess band go on a smaller tree?
Industrial microwave and the zen channel on YouTube coupled with ninja like editing skills!I don't get it. It's January, the ground isn't white and I hear birds chirping.
LWHC watch out!! Seems like a pretty feasible way to climb too with a lineman’s incorporated.Sam as a ring of steps. The main strap does adjust and the excess material pleats between the feet.

Great Video John.Hey guys. I have never used a platform in 14 seasons. The pictured device is similar to my design for my Garda Hitch Footloop. Link attached to video. Some advice:
With a gun, pistol or crossbow, i will shoot right or left handed and so reorientation is not absolutely necessary. With a bow, its really advantageous to choose a tree withba crossing branch for your feet so that you can get on either side of it facing the opposite direction. If you're on a telephone pole, your shot ops are limited. I keep my tie in very high and I HAVE successfully tagged many deer by flipping around, back preessed against the tree, climbing rope squeezing me to the trunk, feet in the loops but in the air, and my bridge carabiner in my left ear while taking a right handed shot. But i don't expect anyone to like it. Its a tough shot.

No, I do not have that concern. And I'm not trying to trivialize it. It's simply would not have an effect because the Garda hitch is always loaded from top to bottom. In fact, I have done experiments and tests and climbs with carabiners with the gates completely removed. I'm not necessarily recommending that, I just ran my system that way for a while to see if there was ever an opportunity for the ropes come out. The reason I am able to do that and still be safe is because I am never dependent upon my foot loop or platform, or anything my feet might be on. I am always tied in above it. That's something that all of us should try to employ. Additionally, the rating of a carabiner, or in fact two of them, with the gate open is still incredibly higher than the minor load of my weight.Great Video John.
One issue we are running into is the "rubbing" of the connection device agianst the tree. In the trial run we used a Petzl Micro Traxion in favor of the hidden latch (vs a ropeman or Kong which have exposed latches) but it is noisy, so we are Looking at going to a friction hitch for this reason. Possibly directly connected to the soft platform without a carabiner. When using the double looped garda hitch with 2 non-locking gate carabiners, do you have any concern of theem rubbing on the bark and opening?
