Soft Platform?

Made a few updates. Also went out and played. Like 2TC, it is technique driven. There is no "simply walking from step to step". It's also surprisingly silent...with the right technique. By point the feet down and pushing down while contacting the tree, the winning strap "rolls" onto the bark pretty silently. You have the advantage of putting some weight into the thing on contact.

Moving around the tree is fairly simple. Push out with hands, pull feet away, reposition and reinguage feet. Stand up. Where this is simular to a ring of steps is the "back pressure" or pull you get on your main tether when positioning off center. That pull is what allows us ROS users to get what is an off side shot for the platform guys. On a ROS, and this method, all shots are on side...it's a matter of getting around the tree.

Got rid of biners, added wear plates, and most recently added an adjustment strap to the band webbing on @Red Beard suggestion

Wow! That is truly impressive!!! Nice work. I think you really know how to display and photo!!!

I abandoned my soft platform pretty quick due to bulk.

I still think the flat panel with the noodles sewn inside is a great idea....it could be folded in different configurations to change the shape of the standing surface....I don't like sewing and am happy with the hunt sac so I haven't attempted

Another masterful mspaint creation. By moving the strap connecting the foot "box" via the toes instead of the heels and using a rigging ring, it may be possible to shift your weight allowing for weak side, drop and 180 degree shots.

Having the point of contact on ur toe area is gonna be ruff after a while....go stand on a ladder rung for a while....u gonna end up with that rung in the center of ur foot or more toward the heel...having it on the balls of ur feet will make u have to have more muscle groups working to keep balance.... think about climbing with an aider...u get it centered and used ur toe off the tree

Good to see some diy stuff coming around....even tho u posted in the NOT diy section, reading and looking at other people's diy ideas is way more interesting that looking at premade "I just bought it" everything looks almost the same junk

If you were sitting in a hybrid, you’d be able to easily move your feet away from the tree to reposition for a new shot angle with this piece of kit… it gets a whole lot of movement involved to do so with a soft saddle.

Also, I’d sure like one of these stirrups for the bottom of an aider set up I use. @always89y do you guys make something like this or can you? I just need one.

A fleece wrap for the tree will eliminate any noise. Make it 8-12” tall, and about 60” long. Probably at least two layers. Wrap the tree, overlapping if needed for smaller trees. Velcro or some other type of fastening. The connection to the tree will prevent slipping up and down on the fleece. But you’ll be free to slip side to side silently all you want. But you’re gonna be getting intimate with the tree to do so in a soft saddle.

Ok, let's go back to the original design:

This appears to work very well for a static, strong-side shot with the issue being to maneuver around the tree for other shots. What if you added ice cleats (cramp-on style) after you attach the soft platform to your boots? This may give you traction against the tree to maneuver but would otherwise not be in the way.

And if u stab/slice an ice cleat into the webbing?

What if u had a 2" wide strap or 10-11mm rope that would attach around the trunk that had stopper knots or bumps in set intervals... Just enough to put the ball of ur foot on the knot and push

At least I'm my mind ur gonna be sitting majority of the time with something like this so u don't really need the stopper knots/webbing bump to hold any weight... It would just give us spot for ur toes to engage raptor claw hook move

If u had a horizontal spanner strap like the 1 between the foot stirrups up at knee level and 2 big pockets on the upright verticals for ur knees to slide into that would probably make it a little more comfortable sitting and u could use that to reposition ur feet also...

Snippity

Ice cleats aren't sharp and only have a point for traction so slicing isn't an issue but stepping on the webbing bridge between the feet may cause problems. If you stiffened this bridge by doubling up on the webbing, maybe adding a thin piece of kydex between the layers, it would prevent this bridge from flopping around and should stay out of the way.

Soooooo…. What you are saying is …a ring of steps?…. :)

From a design perspective what’s the aim for this @always89y ? What are you hoping this system will do that make it better than the others?

I answer for myself what I see as an advantage.

Climbing SRT or 2TC, you need a foot loop which this provides. Then at height, this also serves as your platform thus reducing the amount of stuff and weight overall.

What if you had 4 smaller soft platforms hooked up by a strap loop to your foot tether then at height you connects them together around the tree and pull the connecting straps tight so they are evenly spaced around the tree and won't move.
It could be done is you utilized a friction hitch on the foot tether rather than a girth hitch.

Yes a softer lighter rings of steps.....lol .....dont forget the number 1 goal of saddle hunting is to do it as light as possible. ;)
