2022 Shed Hunting Thread

how are you New England fellas finding these consistently?
I have had no problem finding sheds in NJ/ PA but rarely find any since moving to NH with the lower density.
I scout a healthy amount in the off season
I keep track of where the bucks are in the antler shedding phase, without bothering them. Then I scour those areas come spring. Around here it takes a lot of time and miles and a willingness to go into the thick and nasty places.

The other thing to remember about New England is that there are ALOT of animals that pick up sheds.

Based on how quick my dogs used to eat antlers, I'm confident the lower number of sheds around me is from the rise in coyote numbers. I walked right up on one Friday walking. I heard a noise in front of me, looked up and it was still laying down but getting up not 20 yards in front of me. That was a first for me!

As a reminder from post 11 here, I threw an old shed antler into the snow in the backyard in January to see if one my dogs would find it and earn some shed hunting woods time. After 3 days in the 60's here the snow has melted down to about 4" deep out there and the shed is now visible in the yard from the deck. None of the three labs have managed to find it yet . . . :( . Guess I'm really truly on my own.

My dog only picks up freshly dropped
Sheds that still wreak of buck.

I’ve got one (GSP) who has found me a few. Sort of like with the quail & pheasant Hunting we do, I obviously have no way of knowing how many he passes by. he took to the training pretty easily & On the two occasions that I’ve seen the sheds before he searched an area and left them there as a test, he’s found those as well.
He definitely understands we are playing a different game with antlers than with birds and his hunting style is completely different-almost chaotic looking.
I’ve watched my lab mix, walk up on an antler-seemingly recognize it as something of interest but never do more than sniff it before moving on.

Good day today. All three in a small buck bedding area within 15 feet of each other. One was actually in his bed so not sure why he hadn’t moved it out of the way

It’s suppose to be a nice day tomorrow, gonna see if I can find me a nice cow horn spike wheeler special antler. Going to burn some rubber. How many miles until I find my first antler?

i recall you shared an image of an impressive buck this winter… I’d say as many miles as it takes to find his sheds.
