Tethrd Skeletor Sticks

“That says more about you than Tethrd”…what does that even mean?

What it means is:

willingness to accept product baggage doesn't mean there isn't any baggage.

thusly,

1. You feel issues are minor
or
2. You believe the benefits outweigh the costs
or
3. You implicitly trust the company's reputation, warranty, safety record, etc.
or
4. You bought into the hype of the product
or
5. You are a fan boy
or
6. You are a sales rep

etc., etc.

One's response to product issues is a reflection oneself, a company's response to product issues is a reflection of the company.

In these sorts of conversations, typically dialogue will involve both judgement of the company and judgement of others as well. It's worth keeping that in mind I think if we are really trying to be objective.

Maybe that makes a bit of sense?

If "you" feel differently, that's great too. Doesn't change the fact that they came to market with issues, it just points to the fact that you are willing to live with that, which says more about you than Tethrd. Facts are facts.

I thought the Skeletor features and price point were attractive, and so made the purchase, partly because they had already shipped 1000 pre-ordered sets, so figured flaws were unlikely. Ha! So much for that thinking. I expected that if there were serious design flaws, they would be fixed and customers make whole, no questions asked. That was the case with the short button bolts. That was/is not the case with the lower standoffs that are prone to bending.

I wasn't willing to live with that. I made that wheel squeak till they gave in and replaced my lower standoffs. Now I am happy with the sticks...all known design flaws are fixed on mine. I won't be worried that a design flaw is gonna send me into the tree or even injured. As a newbie saddle hunter, that is important to me.

If you have the original standoffs, you might want to do what I did. Bitch at them till they send you replacements.....without having to wait till they bend/break. Incidentally, "brake" is what you do happens you use a Safeguard rappelling down and want to slow down, or you're in your vehicle and need to come to a stop. "Break", is what happens when something goes wrong with a product. For the record, I have not heard of any of the standoffs breaking.....bending, yes, breaking no. LOL

However, I am not pleased with the customer service, since I had to push them to make the standoffs right for me. That is not "hating" on Tethrd....I understand perfectly why they may not want to automatically replace all the badly designed standoffs. It all comes down to $'s....and the loss they would take by not biting the bullet and "making it right". But though I may understand the logic behind the decision, I disagree with the decision....the cost in good will and potential long term customers could very easily exceed that of shipping out redesigned parts to all customers. I am very unlikely to buy Tethrd after this....at least not for many, many months after they introduce a new product, and they iron out the design flaws. and even then, still not likely to buy more from them given the plethora of alternatives available.

Facts are facts. Opinions are opinions. Fan bois will be fan bois. I could have been one.....didn't/won't happen. But then, I'm old enough to revel in being a curmudgeon that isn't overly tolerant of such things any more. YMMV. :tearsofjoy:

Went out to climb and noticed one of the stand offs was bent. Sent an email and pics. For those that have gotten replacement stand offs, did they replace all four if only one was bent?

No

I got 2 - 1 new, 1 old removed from another stick when I bent 1.

I wouldn’t be overly enthusiastic about getting 4. That’s only half of what you need. Those other 4 should be replaced also…lol

Haven't heard of anyone bending the top standoffs. I supposed it's possible, but less likely since due to the geometry, more of your weight is going to go into the bottom standoff.\, regardless of where you are standing. And the top ones are less likely to dig into the tree.

@enkriss should be the all time product tester for all hunting companies. I’ve seen him break more toys than I buy in three seasons. If there is a problem he will identify it and/or confirm it.

What are we going to do when you’re gone? How many days do you have left? Or are you going to (stick) around and join the saddle-less ranks of @Anobody and others?

I think I will be a part-time saddle hunter for quick sits or far walks.

I bought them because I deemed them a good investment. The One stick, despite it's flaws, enjoys resale value at or above the retail price. I cannot imagine these sticks depreciating in value below what I paid, as long as parts are available and raw material prices remain volatile. Gear should be a business decision not an emotional decision.

The One is no longer in production. Skeletons are. There is also ample used supply atm. If you time it right OR if China imports grind to a halt you’ll probably make a modest profit at resale. Also as season approaches demand will increase. There are other variable, but if those come into play stick sales will be the least of your worries.
