Kinda like when the traditional bowhunting utube guy that promoted the webbing saddle that looks like a thong....he seems like he caught a bunch of flake when he didn't deserve it.....just trying to help his buddy out
Yeah....he made a video about it and peeps jumped on him...I'm not saying anything negative about either the tactisaddle or tad guy...I think you're referring to Jason of Traditional Bowhunting And Wilderness Podcast. I didn't know he got flake, his best friend is the owner of Tactisaddle and he promotes it. But he clearly stated in multiple places that he does not saddle hunt but his friend does. From what I understand Tactisaddle is still around and does not have a bad reputation, but is not a real popular choice simply because most do not find it that comfortable.

@Fl Canopy Stalker thoughts haha? This the guy y’all talking about? I’ve seen some of videos and they’re not bad. Around the 8 minute mark in this video he is recommending using a bowline to connect your tether and or your rappel rope to the tree. He also has about 3-4’ of slack on his tether. I’ve seen some other sketch adjacent rope practices from his channel.
I haven’t watched it yet. I don’t know anything about the guy giving the advice. Y’all let me watch this and report back@Fl Canopy Stalker thoughts haha?

I knew I could count on you for good review. My thoughts exactly. I just hate he has 48k subscribers and many more that watch his videos and are putting themselves at additional risk by improper using of ropes and gear.Ok I watched about 8 minutes of it and I cringed the entire time… One of the reasons tethers work is that they are girth hitched to the tree. It essentially cinches the rope tighter to the tree as we weigh it with downward opposing pressure. Even when using a carabiner or quick link, it’s free sliding and girthing the tree. First he acted like using a rubber flat washer was some new discovery that saddle hunters haven’t been doing for the better part of a decade now. Then his method to use the bowline doesn’t allow the rope to cinch the tree. What he did would be the equivalent to if you used a lineman’s rope around your knees. It wouldn’t cinch if you fell unless it caught on a branch or something. Also I’m not sure what RCH type contraption he’s using but if he fell with all that slack with that thing on, he could be paralyzed or worse when it snaps him around with all the pressure on his spleen hips and spine. Of course that’s assuming it did eventually catch and stop your fall. Guys stick to using carabiners or delta links if you don’t want to girth hitch the tree. I am probably gonna upset some guys but saddles and RCH’s aren’t designed to replace a fall arrest harness. Using them that way is at your own risk but if you are going to use them on your .5’s….. keep that tether up and tight and do not tie a running bowline around the tree. I’d rather perform dentistry work barehanded on an unsedated crocodile than have a fall in the set up he’s touting as safe

Yea lol maybe you and Madrock can take some of the heat when everyone starts saying I am hating on him or tactisaddle… lol I want to be clear I’m not hating on him. Just some “influencers” should stick to suggesting brands and showing their prowess as deer hunters. Leave safety suggestions to safety qualified people instead…I knew I could count on you for good review. My thoughts exactly. I watched all his videos. He is very knowledgeable and give good advices. But you have to get over the 'old dog, new tricks' aura that he has. He very set in his way and has total faith in what works for him so sometimes it does feel to me that on certain things there is a tunnel vision. He used to say "There is nothing out there better then _____" but recently he always add "to me" haha.
Yes many people mistake fall restraint and fall arrest. While a lineman’s rope or lanyard is for fall restraint, it needs to also be able to withstand the forces of fall arrest because while on your lineman’s rope, a fall can occur and if used properly the rope will stop the initial fall. It’s what you do or what the rope hangs on after that, that will determine if you continue down the tree or not. So it’s not a fall arrest l but it does need to be strong enough for dynamic loadinghe was totally set on lineman's lanyard being a sort of fall arrest device, years ago, and dug in his heels in a video and said something in a semi rant to the effect of
"why won't you guys just listen to me and realize i know what i'm doing"
