Pursuit platforms

I got on mine for the first time yesterday. At 180# I could feel minimal movement, but can’t see the flex or lack of flex under my feet. Doesn’t feel like much at all.

Is there a way to definitively tell if you have one from the bad lot?

Other than that it’s pretty sweet at that price point.

not sure about the defective units. I have lot 1, but from what i've gathered not all lot 1 units are weak.

While I understand your frustration with that policy, I also see why they would have that policy. Shipping platforms for people to try and decide it's not for them based on preference is a bad business model and I'm unaware of any other manufacturer who would do that. I vaguely recall people having platforms break and the manufacturers dragging their feet about returning/replacing them because there wasn't proof that it wasn't "abused" but that's a different topic. If your platform didn't break or deform I would say it's reasonable for them to expect you to return it on your dime or rehome it if it's not for you.

Well as I understand your point, Trophyline had no problem paying to ship it back if you don’t like it. This is not like that, it’s unsafe in my mind. Used it once and its a different shape. And I wasn’t trying to deform it.

That looks like a deformed and defective platform to me. If they have seen that picture and still said you had to pay to return it I would be dissatisfied, if they haven't seen that photo, then I would send it to them with a better explanation of your concerns with the platform and see if that changes their answer.

Is that just for platforms? They made me pay return shipping on the Platow pack.

Inside 30 days. You only lose your initial shipping cost. TL pays to ship it back

Went out and threw mine on a tree with a ratchet strap. I’m not familiar enough with the cam buckle. I’m 6’2” and 145lbs. A small amount of flex but felt good to stand on. I can’t seem to get them to upload.

@RMcDonald7 - Nice camera work by your son - thanks for showing your latest results.

My Pursuit platform has been sitting in the box for a couple of weeks since arrival, but I tried it out for the first time today. With my saddle, sneakers, & summer clothing on today, I weighed in at 195 lbs on my bathroom scale. I attached the Pursuit platform to an 18" diameter oak in my yard at about 2' off the ground. I used the webbing strap & OCB, and firmly set it with all my weight on one foot against the tree just as you show in your video. The outdoor temperature during testing today was 85 degrees F.

TLDR: At my weight, the platform performed like a champ for me and I think it's a winner if you're <=200 lbs when fully geared up with hunting clothes, saddle, etc.

I tried both sides and experimented with putting all my weight on one foot on the furthest corners from the tree, springing up and down, just as you did. I did this on each corner like you did. I didn't jump up off the platform and come back down on it or try to force it to buckle - I just subjected it to what it would normally see during a typical hunt. (Except that in a typical hunt I don't expect to put all my weight on one foot on the outer corner and spring up and down repeatedly.) I also adjusted between an exaggerated lean and sitting and everything in between, at a variety of tether heights. The platform had some modest flex, but never even came close to buckling like RMcDonald7's did. The "feel" of the platform is just a little bit spongy, but the traction nubs that are molded into it work great and I didn't experience any tendency to slip or slide at all.

Frankly, the flex makes it more comfortable than a small rigid platform - it's clear to me now why @Weldabeast likes his soft homemade platform. If you're a leaner, it's much more comfortable than an inflexible metal platform. Since I'm more of a sitter than a leaner, I thought I'd prefer the shallower angle, but the steep angle is definitely more comfortable to me when I lean, and I might spend more time leaning when I'm using this platform.

My platform arrived on August 8th and the orange sticker on it indicates "Lot# 2 07/22". The information flyer that came with it states, "The Pursuit Platform is rated to 400 lbs, but suggested to be used under 333 lbs." Based on the results RMcDonald7 posted above, I don't trust that rating at all. But if you're like me, at <=200 lbs in full gear leaning or standing on your platform, it seems like a winner. I'm going to keep mine and use it in rotation with my other options during the 2022 deer season. I look forward to using it on shorter hunts (where I won't miss the extra room of my metal platforms) and on deep excursions into big woods (where I want to go minimalist/super-light).

I really want to like the platform. And I do like it. This is my first year saddle hunting, and not sure how much I’ll be on the extreme corners of the platform… but i still may give it a shot in early season.
I’m planning to 1 stick this year, so not sure how much I’ll use it. May however use it in conjunction with 1 stick for more mobility in the stand.

I’m no way shape or form bashing Pursuit! I love the idea and think the spongy feeling would be great for longer sits. I was surprised to get the replacement and it being the same lot and date code. Would have liked to get a lot 2 to try.

So you reviewed the same item twice essentially.

I don't own 1 but just commenting on the angle....
I didn't know pursuit would have a sponge feel. I built my platform to be soft on purpose cause it's more better

I plan on getting 1 of these in the future to compare with what I made. It's lighter and I wouldn't have to restuff it with more stuffing every couple seasons...

@RMcDonald7 - I think you’re coming across exactly as you intended - I didn’t take anything you shared as bashing in any way … you just shared your experience and the results that can be expected for a guy at your weight. Those of us who encourage innovation and would like to see the creators succeed were hoping you’d have better results with the replacement they sent you. But it is what it is - your results speak for themselves. I posted my results since I’m at a lower weight and like you, I figured it may help some folks to decide if a Pursuit platform is a good option for them.

I hope Pursuit offers an updated design that won’t buckle for guys up to 300 lbs - since most saddle hunting gear seems to be rated up to that limit. But even if they don’t, I think they should adjust the recommended weight limit for this model down to a value that is not ever going to buckle the platform.
