@RMcDonald7 - Nice camera work by your son - thanks for showing your latest results.
My Pursuit platform has been sitting in the box for a couple of weeks since arrival, but I tried it out for the first time today. With my saddle, sneakers, & summer clothing on today, I weighed in at 195 lbs on my bathroom scale. I attached the Pursuit platform to an 18" diameter oak in my yard at about 2' off the ground. I used the webbing strap & OCB, and firmly set it with all my weight on one foot against the tree just as you show in your video. The outdoor temperature during testing today was 85 degrees F.
TLDR: At my weight, the platform performed like a champ for me and I think it's a winner if you're <=200 lbs when fully geared up with hunting clothes, saddle, etc.
I tried both sides and experimented with putting all my weight on
one foot on the furthest corners from the tree, springing up and down, just as you did. I did this on each corner like you did. I didn't jump up off the platform and come back down on it or try to force it to buckle - I just subjected it to what it would normally see during a typical hunt. (Except that in a typical hunt I don't expect to put all my weight on one foot on the outer corner and spring up and down repeatedly.) I also adjusted between an exaggerated lean and sitting and everything in between, at a variety of tether heights. The platform had some modest flex, but never even came close to buckling like RMcDonald7's did. The "feel" of the platform is just a little bit spongy, but the traction nubs that are molded into it work great and I didn't experience any tendency to slip or slide at all.
Frankly, the flex makes it more comfortable than a small
rigid platform - it's clear to me now why
@Weldabeast likes his soft homemade platform. If you're a leaner, it's much more comfortable than an inflexible metal platform. Since I'm more of a sitter than a leaner, I thought I'd prefer the shallower angle, but the steep angle is definitely more comfortable to me when I lean, and I might spend more time leaning when I'm using this platform.
My platform arrived on August 8th and the orange sticker on it indicates "Lot# 2 07/22". The information flyer that came with it states, "
The Pursuit Platform is rated to 400 lbs, but suggested to be used under 333 lbs." Based on the results RMcDonald7 posted above, I don't trust that rating at all. But if you're like me, at <=200 lbs in full gear leaning or standing on your platform, it seems like a winner. I'm going to keep mine and use it in rotation with my other options during the 2022 deer season. I look forward to using it on shorter hunts (where I won't miss the extra room of my metal platforms) and on deep excursions into big woods (where I want to go minimalist/super-light).
