TEAM 1 THREAD

Blocked off my work schedule for hunting time off this week. Got a lot of free weekdays coming up. October 27, 28, Nov 1, 3, 8, 17, and the mornings off on the 10th and 11th along with the week of Thanksgiving. If I can't kill a deer in that amount of time (not including mondays and weekends I'm normally off) I should find another hobby lol

Got out this afternoon. After all the rain and then 2, 75 degree days, the skeeters ate me up. I kept moving until I found hot sign, bumped a big doe so got set up 20 feet up a straight poplar. Had a yearling come in. Too small. Then a doe and fawn. Then later another doe out of range. 545 got out of the tree. Bugs were driving me crazy and had a soccer game to get to. Scouted my way out and bumped 3 more deer including a heavy 8. There were 6 vehicles in the lot so I was just glad to be in the game on this smallish parcel with all the pressure

Got out for a morning hunt today but saw nothing. Hung another cell cam and checked some oaks that seem to be pretty bare. Headed out tomorrow to do some scouting while the girls are in school see if i can come up with a plan for the next few weeks.

Spent the weekend at camp. Had two small bucks and a 2 yr old 8pnt sparing 70yards below me yesterday morning. Each time the 2 yr old got done pushing one of the young ones around he would tear up a tree. Was a fun show but he never got closer than 40yds which is double my recurve range.

Oh well…wasn’t sure he was worth ending my season on anyway.

Shot my crossbow just now to unload it and the string derailed. Not a clue as to why. So far in the last month I have dry fired my switchback xt on a 3D course and destroyed a crossbow. Got some work to do to get a plan C.
That sucks!!!!

All hope is not lost. After I blew up my switchback two weeks before the season opener (really sounds like I don’t take care of my stuff over here) I restrung my father in laws sq2 he gave me in 2016 when I started hunting. I shot the buck in my avatar with it in 2019 and haven’t used it since. After I restrung it I remembered that I didn’t like the chunky wood Mathew’s grip or the mushy back wall and put it away until tonight. Decided to take one shot through paper and see how far off it was from being set up properly. Shot that bullet hole. Pissed me off so I tried a 300 spine beman at 504 grains. Another bullet hole. 400 spine gold tip at 470. Third bullet hole. Guess I’m almost there.

Today is the opening day of muzzleloader here in Pennsylvania which is antlerless only. I decided to sit on the edge of a bunch of doe bedding figuring guys would be walking around moving deer. Honestly had zero expectations of going in and killing a buck but someone must have kicked him up because he ran right to me stopped at 25 yards broadside and took off the top of his heart. Ran maybe 50 to 60 yards and went down. Will 100% admit I did zero homework on this public deer but I never mind being a little lucky every once in a while
