Just my first initial judging of age. Some of the young does here on the Eastern Shore are as big as the mature does I hunt on the mainland of VA. So I have trained myself to look at the nose first before I pull the trigger. Short nose=young deer (doe or button buck). You can't just go by size over here. Every year there are 200+ lb does killed on the Eastern Shore.

Good stuff thanks for the info that makes sense. Still trying to train my eye, but they all get me excited so that works too lol

I’m in the killing tree tonight. I didn’t have confidence in the last 3 sits, not because I didn’t think I’d see deer (saw bucks on all 3 sits), but because I didn’t think the odds were high that they’d come in my 20 yard radius because there were not many terrain features constraining them to me. Hopefully they’ll be chasing right at sunset like yesterday. Im sitting on a finger of woods that acts like a funeral between the swamp and a field that they travel N to S on. If they take the field I won’t have a shot but otherwise I should have an opportunity. Ive watched them for 3 sits now and they all either came or went this way. Im on the east side of the funnel (swamp side) facing west into a west sw wind. There is a chance that they could sneak in behind me but I should still have the wind in my favor. Back to work tomorrow so looking to shoot something! It’s warmed up and the little bit of snow is gone. Good luck fellas.531EFEF6-65A4-4902-A1CE-2DE37E4B4CB1.jpeg

Any spot that acts like a (deer) funeral deserves a name like the killing tree.

Somebody give @gcr0003 some advice! Options are what? Wait him out/ hope? Try calling- doe or buck noises??? No shot to him as he is

Deer came in to 10 yards I shot, it was last light, walked 10 yards and must’ve laid down… missed…

Update gut shot the deer. Backed out to find my catylitic converters stolen… out my sequoia while I was hunting…
Well damn. Sorry, sounds like a roller coaster of a night that you didn't sign up for. Hope you find the deer and the scumbags get caught... by the law or under the next car.
