Where Do Platforms Go From Here?

Hoping to stir up a good discussion. What are your thoughts about where platforms are or should go from here?

Lighter, more compact, different dimensions?

Any choice immediately brings its trade offs. You can’t eat your cake and have it too (yes, that’s the right way to say that.

I’ve read some guys lamenting over the “camming” style of platform. If so, what else is there?

My main request would simply be more ergonomic footprints or dimensions, but I hope the discussion goes deeper than that.

My favorite is the trophyline edp. As far as strap on platforms they are as small or large as you like already. Several good ones to choose from that are not excessively heavy. Maybe platforms that have no moving parts and don’t require camming. Would rather have machined aluminum from bar stock instead of cast. What I would like to see is dedicated climber platforms. Barrenridge is the only company making these directly for saddle hunters that im aware of. I cant believe no other ready made options are available by now.

Maybe a millennium style (fabric) surface in a frame. If not a push button strap, maybe one of those turn style tightening systems used on laces may be feasible. Good question and they are working on the next best thing as we speak.

I got plenty of ideas for new platforms but I can't share them cause then I can't make a million dollars off of all u suckas

Patents flying this way and that.... cease and desist orders....unholy alliances and backdoor dealings ....

U can keep all that mess

The ridged post with a couple V shaped things and a strap is getting pretty played out.

While I’m not sure if I agree or not, I do realize many others do.
So if the post and camming platform are played/playing out, what paradigm shift is next?

I’m all for a twist/dial system that tightens the rope/strap, but a push button seems silly to me. But this issue is solved with a cam cleat.

I'm waiting on an integrated cam buckle. I think I've seen the issue is that the strap has to be inline , I could be wrong though. We've made every conceivable shape and style of stand off, could we work on ditching the swinging chunk of metal? Seems doable if we rethink the buckle portion, which is probably necessary anyway. I'm just trying out the cam cleat but so far it's my least favorite

That's a good point. When you release the weldy do-lux platform ditch the swinging clunky thing for me would ya? :tearsofjoy:

Better start getting more fiber. Ouch!

Several smaller ones to go around the tree could be cool. Kinda like big squirrel steps?

I have conceptualized connecting steps. Like the bullman platform steps but with a hinge on either side connecting with a cotter pin. you could have a solid ring if you wanted or 3-4 "platforms" around the tree. Just haven't gone anywhere with it.

The Pursuit platform was out of the box, but the flex just freaked a lot of people out.

I honestly would love to see a a strap/preset design like XOP did for their hang-on stand (quick connect system), I think Hawk has a similar system. I don't know why no one have done this to combat the issue of side pressure. You might not even need teeth against the tree. Get a preset strap tight, slide/insert/whatever the platform on it and there is no need to cam or hook or anything. I would even be ok with a 2 straps system.

But seriously, if I has the engineering ability, a preset strap connection method is what I would want.
