Saddle comfort, long sits are just painful

Hey all. My setup is as follows: 1. Tether at forehead height (Sterling C-IV Canyon Rope, distal hitch with sterling 6mm TRC.) (I've moved this up and down, and forehead height is most comfortable. 2. Saddle (homemade, bought here, aero hunter style) 3. 5 squirrel steps. Anything over two...

How to productively hunt in October, SE PA, still without my first deer.

Thank you to everyone. Your advice means a lot to me, one day I'll explain it. Anyhow. You've convinced me to do some scouting after work tomorrow, that'll give me 1.5 to 2 hours at French Creek State Park. It's about 20 minutes east of where I normally hunt, bigger, with less pressure.

How to productively hunt in October, SE PA, still without my first deer.

Thanks all, Season one- I sort of just walked around the woods a lot. I saw one buck. Season two- I spent a lot of time walking and looking for rubs, scat, and bedding. Most days, I'd pick a place that looks ok and with a favorable wind and walk around for a few hours; then, if I found a...

How to productively hunt in October, SE PA, still without my first deer.

Hey everyone. This is my third season learning to hunt solo. I'm a middle-aged dude who decided to try this out after a lifetime of fly fishing. I live outside West Philly and work in the West Chester/ Downingtown area. I mainly hunt in SGL 52. I've been out four Saturdays so far in that SGL. On...

Setting up on beds and oak trees, early season pa

Thanks. I live in SE PA, so sgl 52 is the closest to me. I fly fish a lot and tried my hand at hunting in Bald Eagle State Forest, but it's 4 hours from me, and also, it's so big I didn't know where to start. Thanks for the advice. Much appreciated.

Setting up on beds and oak trees, early season pa

Thank you. Yes, it was a doe group. Saturday, I set up below the beds as more of a scouting opportunity to learn their movements. The wind was favorable all day. Two fork bucks walked by me; I need an antlerless tag for forks in PA, and I messed up the stupid pink form. On my way out in the...

Setting up on beds and oak trees, early season pa

Hey all. Last winter, I did some scouting and found a corner of a piece of state game land that had a lot of beds, fresh scat, and tracks after a snowfall. I figured I'd look at that spot again yesterday, curious about what I'd see. The beds still seemed fresh, and there were fresh scat and...

Winter scouting session after new snowfall

I assumed so, but I have learned that deer in this area tend to bed at this elevation on the north and east-facing sides of this hill. Regardless, it was a nice a quiet walk in the woods.

Winter scouting session after new snowfall

Hey all, I heard a few YouTubers say to scout after a fresh snowfall. I went back to the state game land I hunted all season, again, this was my second season. I am still eating tag soup. About four inches fell starting around 1 am to about 1 pm. I got to the parking lot at noon. I walked in...

I wasn't ready, deer snuck up behind me

That is also a great idea. Besides the time a 6 ptr caught me without it, I called in a fork during the rut and dropped my release right as I was reaching for my bow. A backup sounds great.

I wasn't ready, deer snuck up behind me

LOL. I have a thumb release and never thought of doing this. I guess I'm afraid it will slip and fall. I'll try this when my season opens again in late December.

I wasn't ready, deer snuck up behind me

Yeah, I fixed it right after. It's my first thumb release, a Truball max hunter, and the lanyard doesn't tighten, so I found a short-term solution to tighten it.

I wasn't ready, deer snuck up behind me

The fall PA archery season ended for 5c Friday. I had off so I went in just in case. The winds were +20mph all day and the lot was half full of gun hunters getting ready for Saturday. I saw a lot of signs, but no bucks. The season picks up again in late December. So far, three bucks were seen...
