"The official saddle hunting backpack thread"

No, the rope just runs through everything and I’m clipping back into it. Same concept as The battle belt lineman’s belt, just without the webbing. Picture taking a battle belt and threading the rope all the way through it, with an overhand on a bight on one end. I’ll take some better pictures...

"The official saddle hunting backpack thread"

The rope goes all the way around me. Through the belt and pack. So I’m relying on the rope. Not the belt, if that makes sense.

"The official saddle hunting backpack thread"

I’m using an Eberlestock J34 (Just One). My wife bought it for me years ago and I’ve never really found a good use for it as far as hunting deer in Georgia. The other day I had an idea and now I’m in love with it. The biggest problem hunting down south, as I’m sure some of you are aware, is our...

Got mine from Midway yesterday. No problems. No slag.

Most Essential Saddle Hunting Accessory Less Than $20

I’d need to see it on a map. Preferably one with the waypoints from last year and the points of interest for this year. Just to make sure you really KNOW your $20 or less gear you see. It’s like a poor man’s vetting process. Totally above board and sanctioned. I won’t even tear up your speech...

Sorry it took me a year to reply!! It’s a dirty thirty.

    Baiting with corn.

We just started doing it (became legal) in my part of GA last year. The properties next to us chose to, so we did too. We killed the exact same number of deer at camp last year as we did the year before (before we started baiting). This year it’s like the deer don’t care as much. Corn or...

    Live from the saddle 2019

When the guys at camp think they have a good stand, a saddle hunter makes it better. Last hunt of 2019.

    Rambling Conclusions

Yep. I’m mostly on loblolly pines, so that’s where the noise comes from. On a poplar or sweet gum I can be super-secret-squirrel-stealthy. I should have clarified. Thanks for pointing that out.

    Rambling Conclusions

Yeah, I climbed the same trees several times with them myself last year. The trees are still there. But, I’m no tree doctor, so what do I know? When I spoke about them being deadly above, I was referring to the climber, not the climbee.

    Rambling Conclusions

Not really. I hunt mainly private and what little public I do I just one-stick. I just haven’t felt the need to try WE Stepps. I know a lot of people love them.

    Rambling Conclusions

So here’s my thoughts. They’re worth less to you than they are to me, but I like em alright, so I figured I’d share: There isn’t a great, almighty, one-size-fits-all, “if you’re not doing it this way, you’re a booger-eater” method to get up a tree. Spurs: nice and deadly. Excellent on poplars...

    Cranford ring of steps

I have five that I use for a preset. Too heavy/noisy for me to really use in a mobile setup. I sprayed them with bed liner to help, but they’re so slick it peeled off after a couple of uses. Solid as a rock though. I wish I’d have saved the money and just gone with squirrel steps to begin with...

    The Wraptor

The only stitches visible in the pic are the ones that help hold the straps and carabiners in place. Not load bearing at all. Everything thing else is triple box stitched with an X. edit: what Bwhana said...

Going to try mine Saturday morning. I’m on “get the house ready for Christmas visitors” duty today.

Easiest method for screw in steps?

I use one of these too. It certainly helps, but since I got a treehopper, it sits at camp.

    Climbing spur question

I feel ya there. I hunt the same type of pines in GA. One thing I can tell you about spikes is, they’re not much quieter on the pines. Between the bark crunching and the lineman’s rope, it’s pretty much the same as using a summit climber. At least, that’s my experience. Only way I’ve been able...
