2 tether or die.

I think pine trees make the best candidates for 2TC as an initial climb (you'd be dumb not to leave a paracord preset in for next time) because of the sheer volume of branch passes that you'd have to do with any other method.
In a pine you're never really advancing you're tether up the bark....you're really leapfrogging the rings of branches.
There, there now @tailgunner, I set him straight....

Pines are doable. Slow down a little bit and ease weight into the tether so it settles and doesn't crunch or scrape the bark. I think the sound of climbing a pine falls within what deer will accept. I feel like I have actually called in several deer back when I was using a Summit climber. The deer heard the noise and came to see what it was.

Don't look too long/hard or bark will start flaking and ur ropes all sappy....I used to have a pic of the base of 1 that a guy hunted out of 3 days in a climber...15 pounds of bark and flakes in a pile at the base...Screenshot_20230310-153605~2.png

Most of the pines seem to do OK. I did have one this season that I shucked real good going up, lol. It was more of an aggravation than anything. My biggest concern when I was climbing it wasn't safety or worrying about noise. I was thinking about all the redbugs that were likely in all that bark getting on me. Turns out it wasn't an issue.

Since it only took off thin layers of that flaky bark there was no sap at all involved.

They are like Velcro and grab and hold on to ur rope. I use my linesman like a flip line and it'll get caught up. The outer flakes are there for resistance to fire... Mother nature made them easy to flake on purpose. Nmsbow first pic is a good example of how they flake and bark falls off....look at the pile of stuff at the base of the tree

This is exactly what my edge trim/tether stiffener idea is for!!! It takes away the rope catching on the bark and makes it 100%easier to push yr tether up the tree! You've gotta at least try some! Perfect for 8 to 10 maaaybe 11 mm rope.

@Samcirrus I think y'all's pines are different than ours....
Yes and no. We have that flaky kind of bark too. Actually my 2TC pine tree climb was on such a tree, because in deep winter the dree love to stay in these red and white pine thickets to avoid deep snow.

What.big homie cant put me in to his crue then leave me hangin in a scrap.we gots to rush him all at once.he just knoking us down one at a time like a Jackie chan sene.
There's the rub... can't take out a juggernaut one on one or even 7 on one. Gotta dig a hole, coax him along in the direction you want him to take, and then have him fall into it.

Don't worry. You'll get him eventually.

Any climbing method that has 3 or 4 open threads at the same time try to convince peeps that it's the most bestest..... For me, by default, I gotta be against it hahahahahaha

I've given 2t praise in the past and still do currently, spent multiple days giving it an honest go, and even used the method on a couple hunts.... It worked awesome climbing cypress trees and palm trees but trees with a bunch of branches or loose bark I'm louder and less efficient...large diameter trees leg hooking is kinda pointless so I was using my stirrups on the bottom tether and that was better...it like the climbing tree stand of the rope climbing world
