2018 Deer Contest Discussion

Lots of firsts today:
First hunt from a saddle.
First bow hunt.
First deer shot with a bow.
First wound loss?

The shot felt good, but looked forward. Sounded and looked like it hit bone. Decent amount of bright red blood in first 50-75 yards, then just drops here and there until it stops completely about 300 yards away.
Tell me I probably just wounded her since she made it so far at a dead run. Tell me she's not going to die in a few days two miles from here and never be found. This is why I used a crossbow last year. I didn't want to have this hanging over me.
Feeling dejected.
Going back out to look some more in a few minutes. This SUCKS!

that might be the most important kill of the year after all the stress we put Red through :)

Haha that’s right! That bear really made a mistake trying to steal Reds deer. He’s lucky he didn’t die!! Lol

Hopefully it wasn’t shoulder.
Give it a good hard look, but don’t beat yourself up if you don’t recover her.

I know this is a deer contest but do we get bonus points for coyotes, bobcats, pigs, and hell on them slow days I’ve been known to shoot a squirrel or two. Just curious about other legal kills.

No it’s deer only. The rules are posted in the entry thread.

Keep your head up. Do the best you can and just keep learning from your mistakes. It happens to everyone. It makes the successes that much sweeter
Thanks @redsquirrel. I went back out to search for a couple more hours. Lost the trail at the same spot as the first time. I definitely learned something with this experience. I will be aiming just a hair farther back than I do with a rifle. I'll still hit double lung, but will reduce the chance of hitting bone if I'm off by a little. It was crazy how loud the impact was. I watched the arrow in flight, but the sound still made me think I had missed and hit a tree behind her. Anyway, tomorrow's another day... but I'll be putting a transmission in my pickup, so no more hunting for me this weekend. Good luck guys, be safe!

if my shoulder continues to crap out of me can I use my Matthew's on the trad team? I hate to penalize them because I'm getting old. so far so good but I can only shoot a 1/2 dozen shots at a time.
