2018 Team 5 Thread

I’m hunting 8 days in the next 2 weeks, but it looks like my timing is just as bad as the rest of the season. 2 days this next week are showing thunderstorms... right in the middle of my 4-day trip.

I am done with rain!

Hit a doe at 9 this morning. First shot from the saddle. Couldn't see where shot hit but felt good. Deer acted like a lung hit. Stomach contents on arrow. Tracked for 30 yards decent blood but backed out. Going back in at 3. Not sure how I can get a @redsquirrel rules compliant photo not taking saddle for recovery. Going in for the recovery with a knife, gamebags, and backpack. May need some kinda waiver on the photo.

You ever get her?

We found her this morning 70 yards from where I bumped her.

It's a game of inches fellas. She was slightly quartering-to which may have been string jumping or may have been just a heat of the moment misjudgment. This is entry. Exit was probably 2 inches below and back.

Right lung was pulverized. Left lung had one broadhead nick. These things are survivors fellas.

Well, I am back at it tomorrow morning for a 4 day trip. Plan on hitting the ground just after first light and scout until it is time to set up for an evening sit.

It is a new-to-me property right at 4,000 acres, and it is mostly grasslands. Winds are squirrelly at best, so I may just scout the whole day if they don’t stabilize by evening.

Hopefully I get us some points!!!

Had an amazing day in the swamp guys, a shot a nice 8 point within 10 minutes of watching my buddy shoot a 10 that stayed out of range of my tree and headed in his direction. While we stood there getting ready to gut them we had another buck show up, he was HUGE! Unfortunately at that point we were way past being in hunting mode and well into celebrating and preparing for the work ahead so we might have missed an opportunity at him.
Going back on Wednesday to try our luck at him again.Swamp bucks.JPG

Another deerless sit in the mountains this morning. Moving spots and back to the grind. Total this season I've seen 3 spikes and a mature 6 point. Been my worst season ever for deer sightings. Oh well it only takes one. Have all day tomorrow, Saturday, and either Friday or Monday then season is over. Haven't needed the .270 in 5 years hoping to keep it going

Also forgot my aider this morning...dummy move. Tree I had picked wasn't gonna work with that so I moved 10 yards to a little black gum with better cover. Still managed to get about 14 feet with 3 sticks. Not too shabby.

So I was out last week and got up to height set my platform and clipped in my bridge and unhooked my 3 step aider- and then for some reason just let go of it. Needles to say it was 20 deer down and my Stepps were spaced 5 1/2 deer apart.... by some dumb luck it fell on my bow and I was able to bring it back up. That would have been a fun climb down

Got some cool footage of the hunt too. Not a huge 8, but old deer, cool curly on one point, and a hole/hollow on another. Worked my butt off to get him too. Will be submitting video since I'm dumb and didn't take saddle picture. Rebel I know! I'll catch up with all you fellows, but good lord we're knocking em down!

Well sorry team for not being able to post anything yet, has been crazy and have only gotten out a handful of times and haven't had anything in range. I start my rutcation today and hopefully I can put at least 1 down this next week. I'm hoping I've planned this vacation and looks like I might have, to hit peak rut here in Ohio and the temps have dropped like crazy.

Don’t feel bad, I was an anchor for my team the last two seasons. Zero points on the board both years. I’m just glad I’m not this year.

Nice work guys! I hit a really nice buck at noon. Thought I heard him go down going to go track at 2. Took a bit of a risky shot heat of the moment. I all sorts of puckered up right now.

Good luck!!!
And I plan to add at least 5 points early next week.

Bumped him 100 yards into the trail. There is lung blood though and I think he's hurting. It was a frontal shot. I don't advocate it but the circumstances it was all I had and the angle was perfect. Gonna give him overnight and trying to line up a dog. Pretty sure this will be my best buck ever if I can find him. Ughhh not gonna sleep well. This is not my favorite part of bowhunting thats for sure.
