2022 Turkey Hunting Thread

Can you share a picture of your 870? I have a 870 that I killed a Turkey with my first year two years ago, but looking to make some modifications to it just for tinkering sake.

I’ve been wanting to upgrade my shotgun in general. Maybe I should put the money towards a new all around shotgun. At some point I’d like to get a over under as well as a semi. I think my wife’s head would explode if I told her I was buying a Turkey specific shotgun.
Here is mine before I put the sight on it. I had it drilled and tapped for a picatinny rail and put a vortex venom red dot on it. Swap out the stock for the thumbhole and had the rest of it dipped.

gear review! Thanks for doing it for me lol
I ignored it at first because it was so much and I’m not a big vest guy anyways. It looks big but in videos it looks more minimalist somehow. It looks sweet. Might see if anyone has one in store yet today

Here’s another option I rigged up for when not needing a hydration pack or something bigger. Water bottle that attached to molle. 19oz bottle attached to the Fanny pack. I think it’ll be perfect for shorter hunts.

What is appealing about it? Not being an ass, I see a lot of love for it (not so much for the price), but I'm not seeing it.
You’re all good man! I’m with ya, idk if i could bring myself to actually buy it or not. At first I thought it was super big and bulky but the video I saw on it made it look more streamlined even though it’s not a minimalist pack. Idk if I like the magnet pockets and idk what the material is made out of. I honestly just like Turkey vests even though I try to get away from them

As much trouble as i've had with the knight and hale RNG series, I like the concept and the layout somewhat. Sitka revamped it imo.

I'll always have my Russell Bros Super Elite 3, but I picked up an original bucklick vest this season that I'm looking forward to using. Also have a glenda green satchel for when it's too hot of the vest along with a few call holsters.

what size belt pack is that? i tried to get some pot calls in those slip pockets and they were too small or maybe my calls were too big.

i went with one of these for my coffee cup.

Going to hopefully make it to my brother’s property this season for turkey. Going to use my Stevens 301 .410 and Apex Turkey Ninja. Glad I have some shells leftover from last year because it’s hard to find and I think more expensive. I’d like to setup my old Mossberg 500 for turkey as well. I’ll keep an eye out for some lead shells for it.

It’s the snubby. I almost got the new medium size but I didn’t. One pot call is smaller than the other which helps. I think they are 3.25” and other is 3.5” pot. Guess I got lucky on fitment!

@Bowtie747 If you're looking at something at that level check out the stuff from Packrabbit. @Bwhana ( who is a major turkey hunter) put me onto this system a couple of years ago, and it will also carry a blind and decoys and then your gobbler back out too. I got the pac-seat last year so haven't used the game hauler but I have gone to a chest rig exclusively for turkeys and carry my blind on the pac seat. That's on private. If I go public I would use this packseat system more. Something to consider that would also allow you to consider bowhunting for turkeys as well. It would also double as a meat hauler for fall bowhunting for deer!! Get some more bang for your buck.

Checked out the Sitka vest at field and stream. Didn’t like the magnetic closures. Not risking my phone or an expensive call. The two chest closures r nice because they can move but they felt breakable. Not saying they are but I wish they would have went with good buckles. Overall it was nice. I did like the fitting, felt more mobile and less bulky but still have plenty of storage. Didn’t impress me enough for 250$

Went with a cabelas speed seat and a messenger style bag for now. Also will use my alpz long spur vest.

That makes more sense. I’ve got one 3.25”. The rest are 3.75” and won’t fit. That was throwing me off a bit. I’ve been thinking of sending my holster off to get modded with a pals strap to go under the bag.

Cabelas Speed Seat and a Waterfowl hunting style messengers bag. Think this might be my setup this year.
Speed Seat has a nice cushion. I carry gloves, headlamp, saw, trimmers, tp and dude wipes in it.
Messengers bag will carry odds and ends, food, water, lighter, sawyers squeeze, cigars, ammo, calls, rain jacket, knife, game tagging stuff, phone charger backup and thermocell. Extra mask, gloves and headlamp.
Always feel like I’m forgetting something
Could buy this seat 2.5 times for the price of the Sitka vest.

How old is that seat? I ask bc that looks like missy oak obsession. all they have nowadays is their own crappy camo patterns.

Bought it today! So it’s new. Maybe old stock? Not sure tbh

Just got up and looked. It’s true timber. But it’s under my butt so I don’t mind too much

I have the same Stevens setup! I love it, well I haven’t used it on turkeys yet. It patterns awesome though! Keep an eye out at Roger’s sporting good online. Only place that I’ve seen have the ninja .410 come in and out of stock
