I was leaning real hard on the Garmin 93sv until I went to store and demoed all the brands. I picked the Lawrence FS9 over the Garmin only because the FS9 has coastal charts and lake charts. I fish salt water 90% of the time.
Both units features are alike. I started to buy the the Garmin but to upgrade the maps to coastal would had put me at the same price point as the Lowrance.
Yep, I think the Garmin 943 is similar to mine with coastal charts. It was significantly higher than the one I got.

Where the skys are so blue!
@Nutterbuster You have a good dichotomous key your using? Fishes of Missouri is good for my part of the country, but it may be missing some species in your area.

Your lepomis talk brings me back to the early parts of my career. I did a bunch of stream assessment work that included electrofishing and fish id. We saw quite a bit of hybridization between bluegill and green sunfish.

Good times!
That sounds fun. I'm looking for a good field guide that's current. There's a really well regarded one with a forward by E.O. Wilson I'd like to find, but it's old and that's an issue because they apparently change classifications often. Longear Sunfish actually just had a split. :/

But I did get these in today...20230429_140303.jpg

I’ve been fishing with a buddy and he runs the same unit with livescope. It has definitely taken a lot of scouting and searching out of the equation. The resolution is very good and Garmin’s maps are second to none in my opinion. The screen is clear even in bright sunlight. I wanted the 10” screen with higher resolution but couldn’t pass on the price of this unit. It has side scan, a flasher, and Clear Vu with the same transducer. I’m saving up for the livescope transducer.
Thank you for the review, greatly appreciated

Historically, I have not been much of an angler. Recently, though, I was gifted some hand-me-down fly fishing gear and have been feeling myself getting pulled into the sport against my will. I brought my gear along on a trip to Europe, not really knowing if I would get a chance to fish. Well, here are some photos from a DIY hike and fish in the French Pyrenees. I caught four brown trout, all around the same size on the first day. Got skunked the other three days that I fished. No big 'ens, but it was really cool catching truly native brown trout in their original range. If you don't have time/can't afford another hobby, avoid fly fishing at all costs. It is absolutely way too much fun

Fly fishing is worse than bow hunting. Once you get a vise for tying, it's pretty much over.
