2023 Fishing Thread

It was a 1-fish night, but the one was worth it! 2nd best northern for me at 34". So excited I forgot to weigh it before releasing, but she was extra girthy. I'm guessing 10 lbs+. I know they get a lot bigger, but...for me, this rocks!

Best fight I've ever had with a pike as she made several drag stripping runs from the boat. Every time I got her back to the boat I couldn't believe how big she looked in the water.

Aren't they such cool fish? I've only caught 1 and it was last year while bass fishing. I was not expecting it and I was a frantic wreck trying to deal with my cool new fish and get pliers/a pic/weight. I managed none of that as she flopped around on the deck, snapped my line, and back into the lake she went lol. Congrats on getting a pic and length!

So...who ties flies?

I dabble. Salt flies are big and fun. Fresh flies can be tedious. Craft foam for anything floating. Plastic bead chain for big eyes.

Biked into my favorite lunch time lake. Caught a few gills and a pumpkinseed, including my first 10" gill. Got a good picture of all the spawn beds through my sunglasses.

It's a 10 out of 10 evening on Champlain. The bite is slow... one each baby Esox lucius and Esox niger. Something nicer came off as it approached the boat. It felt like dinner, but alas, it won this round.

I'll keep plying the waters of the Alburgh Passage, and if nothing else bites it still is a glorious evening, and I'm thankful to all who sacrificed such that opportunities like this exist for me.
