2024 Gear thread

I'm glad I'm not the only one still waiting on the Phoenix. I quit asking them about it a couple months ago. Also glad I didn't try to hold out for it or I'd be shooting bareshafts lol
What’s the phoenix?

Getting a new ACL in Decemberish. I opted for the Amsteel graft though. If it's good enough for expert-level self-certified youtubers to use in every conceivable application, it should work fine as a ligament. That's what some guy in a flatbrim told me anyway, and if anything goes wrong, it's just the bury. That's pretty much my offseason, thinking of the big buck I'm gonna kill next year while I rot inside all winter. Having a season off baseball, I'm going to hit fishing so hard next summer. Then I'm gonna kill the biggest buck of my life.

FR I may poke around at other one-stick options. I was one-sticking with a Tethered One stick since 2022, but decided to go back to my modded cam-cleat OG Helium as it's a little easier on the gimpy knee, and in doing so decided I actually like that much better. I fell for the stupid lightness of the Ti tuber, but the cam cleat is just way better than the wraparound cleat. The toe room is a little better. The step spacing is much better. It's worth the extra pound to carry. I lost 40 of them, so what's adding one back? But if there's something out there that will fit the bill, I may bite.

That's probably it for my hunting gear. Don't see changing from the .5, ever, really. That thing is perfection to me. I'll patch and sew my AH Flex until the safety police carry me away in it, love that thing. New bows are just stupid anymore. Arrow and BH setup just kills. As do most of them. Most of these gear talks are just materialistic noise and folly wrapped up in some sort of bizzarre expertise.

I thought I wanted a LWCG Crossover but I can't hack the price tag. I'd still like to see more perfect climbers come out, and I'd really like to see someone revive the Loggy seat design. But I consider that low-priority and more nostalgia based than anything. I like to get in too many trees climbers can't get in. But for quick and dirty hunts, you can't beat the simplicity of a climber.

I am going to get back to work on my shooting. There was a time in my life when elk were a focus that I was deadly out to to 80 yards. Then kids came along, I paused elk hunting, and with it most of my shooting practice. I always limited myself to shots at deer at 35, but not that my level has slipped a bit, those 35 yard shots feel like a real poke now. 20 yards and in, still deadly as ever, but I need to work to get that 20-35 back to where it once was.

I told you to get your card ready for a certain Friday.
I'm a PSE guy. I have one en route already. There are already some good YouTube review videos from all the big YouTube bow review channels. Like First Lite finally making east coast white tail clothing, PSE finally joined the club for a shorter A to A bow for us tree people. Aka the Na'vi people from Avatar.

I have not shot one yet, but I will admit, it isn't a game changer. It's just to compete with the shorter bows from other manufactures and they (PSE) finally added features other companies have been doing for a few years already. Features my Mach One and Levitate and Mach 34 did not have.

I am interested in the PSE but its heavier this year while being shorter with a big price tag. I guess you just can't have it all in the bow world lol.

Some reviews on YouTube say $1900. Some said $1700. Who knows what street price will be.

The reason it's heavier is because PSE knew they had to add picatinny and other integrative measures other companies have been doing or they would be considered behind the times technologically.

I'm guessing they said we can add some weight because most east coast hunters aren't covering that much distance to their tree versus the western hunter who is covering more ground and may be an ounce counter. But that's just me speculating. I do think the price is silly. Maybe carbon prices increased so the end consumer has to eat that price.

I'm definitely letting others have at it before I do

I had a carbon splinter in my finger once from a broken tennis racket.

It was extremely painful. It felt like stingy nettle but way worse. Maybe due to the small carbon hairs?

Anyways, can't imagine a catastrophic carbon platform failure and a piece the size of a ruler going into your leg.

Coming out this decade, an assumption you make. Yoda.

Even they haven't learned to throughly test this thing beyond all measure after the many one stick fiascos then they'll never learn. I hope that's the reason it's been delayed so much. It was supposed to drop before the start of the season

Athens Axxis  :hearteyes::hearteyes: only made it half way in Avg Jacks' video but OMG tell me Ican still have spring fever. :fearscream:

Edit: it appears spring fever is gone. I'm unreasonably upset about that but I don't need another bow anyway. Party poopers.

I love my elevate. These things are basically the same with a longer brace and easier tuning. Sound like some shooters.

Not to derail, did you have any issues with cables going through your sight/peep picture?

I couldn’t get past that on my elevate and got rid of it. Outside of that I loved it. The cables were running just on the inside of my pins and it was driving me crazy
