2024 Off-Season Getting/Staying In Shape Motivation Thread

Nice work all, I just finished the week up with 7 on the mill. Always easier on the treadmill than outside (other than boredom) but feeling stronger and stronger. Keep it up everyone you're doing great!

Saturday did a 4 mile scouting loop in the mountains. Found 2 spots that got pins for future reference.

Yesterday did the 24.1 crossfit workout. If you havent seen it, it was a 21/15/9 workout of burpees and single arm DB snatches. 90 reps of each in total. Finished in 16:30, time cap was 15 minutes so I didnt quite make it but I was not disappointed either.

Well… I’m re-restarting. I’m at home on spring break this week and going to make an effort to eat clean and workout multiple times. I’ve continued to trainwreck with quick-grab food and no exercise this semester and it’s really showing in the mirror and with my energy throughout the day.

Did 45 mins cardio on the exercise bike/treadmill walk this morning and will walk outside today.

Put in 4 more today, did a 5k and lowered my "training PR" about a minute to 26:50, and then did a mile cooldown jog. Happy about the improvement, continuing to get used to humble pie when I slip up and compare current me (38) to 20 y/o me (~18:30 5k in HS xcountry races). Onwards and upward. Or well.. ideally downward with the times, upward with the momentum/attitude...

Also I think I'm going to need to bite the bullet and get some different shoes, the pinky toe blisters are back again even with better socks, so I'm thinking these shoes just aren't wide enough in the toe box and it's not a sock issue like I'd hoped. It seems like higher mileage on the treadmill or faster runs outside bring out the friction/expose the issue. Both of those will continue as my training goes on, so new shoes it is, even though these ones only have about 150 miles or so on them (Kayano 29s, so I may give the 30s a try).

Hope you're all off to a good start this week, strong work @Marmuzz! Keep checking in, restarting is tough, but it's rewarding!

Nice job @Horn as well, pretty soon we won't be able to see ya if you stand sideways!

Yeah part of me is thinking I need to just suck it up and let my toes callous over, but I never got them in the prior generation of these shoes, and put about 300 miles on those ones (150 spread over the last year and a half and then 100 or so in Nov/December before I switched). Ive heard the 29s are a bit of a miss in terms of the shoe design (learned this after I bought em on sale) so who knows. If I buy a different pair and the blisters continue, well ... I'll have two pairs to rotate then if I run in the rain or something

I had a few pounds I could stand to loose  but I am thinking that @5'7"ish 180 is probably not a bad number for me. I still have a little belly going lol.

I did also make some changes to my hectic schedule last night, prior to seeing this. ( still going to be crazy but history shows that's my happy place)Hopefully I actually follow through on starting to work out. I really struggle with it if I don't have the structure/schedule to make me do things. I'm also too cheap to pay what they're asking around here. I do wish there were more yoga places, it sure did help my back and hips when I used to do a lot of yoga.

Put in another easy 4 on the treadmill this evening. Very tired legs from the mid-calf down, felt great everywhere else.

Nicely done earlier today all, keep it up!

Headed into the gym right now to get my 2nd workout in today, bench. Hiked 3 miles with pups earlier in the rain. Was slick but good!
I'm about to go to sleep. Sure you don't mean your first workout for tomorrow at this point? Lol whatever day it is, strong work getting after it, the consistent 2-a-days is impressive

Yesterday was day 37, was kinda irritated i agreed to this plan about a week or two in. But honestly it’s been great to have a bunch of hard stops in to get my nutrition & workouts on a strict routine. I’m halfway & already kinda planning out what elements I’m going to keep in place & what I’m gonna ease back on. It’s nice not having the option of I can skip this one & catch up tomorrow….

After work today rode 8.1 mi (30 mins) on the exercise bike with full-effort 10 second sprints every 2-3 minutes. Had high resistance on so was dripping sweat by the end. Then wrapped up with a 15 min 1 mi on the treadmill, running .5 at 6mph and then cranking up the incline between 5-10 for the walk. It was hard work having not worked out for a long time but it felt good to exert myself again.

Also had a casual 1 mi walk earlier today.
