2nd Annual Family-Friendly Nutter Bustin' Contest

Thanks, but i don't figure I'll squirrel hunt anymore until january or so. Deer season opens in 19 days and I've got a couple good bucks to hunt. Also me and the mrs are expecting kid #2 next Tuesday or so, and closing on a house around the end of the month hopefully. My time is stretched thin!!

You and everyone else just has to wear the squirrels out in my absence.
Congrats on the mini-me. I think I can shoot a few for you. ;)

Looks kinda small. Maybe a spaniel?
Actually it's a Small Munsterlander. German hunting dog. I suspect there is Spaniel way back in the breed and likely 1 Brittany about 50-60yrs ago. Breed histories are contradictory. I can say he is awesome.

Fried liver. Heck to the yeah. Here's the recipe:

Shoot squirrel.

Clean, taking care to remove liver. You just want liver. Anything else sneaks in with it and you're in for a disgusting mouthful. There are some little capsules/glands/pea-looking things that are full of bile. Bite down on one and you'll swear off eating liver for a while. Watch your step.

Salt and pepper fairly generously.

Coat in flour.

Deep fry in hot oil, or pan fry in hot oil. Whatever floats your boat. They cook quick. I generally deep fry them and pull them as soon as they float, which happens fast. If you walk away, you'll over cook them.

Bone apple teats! They go well with eggs and a beer for a late breakfast after a hard morning craning your neck up at the canopy.

I'm getting a pressure cooker this year. I wanna try a few recipes I heard about last year. I tend to scarf 'em down as soon as I get home with them. Momma don't like'em in the fridge with all the respectable dead critter parts. ;)

This is the exact reason I had to get a second fridge for the garage. The lady of the house doesn't like having to see the dead animals, she only wants to eat them.

My Citoris are for the pretty days too. I’ve got a 16ga Auto 5 for when the rains come, also throwing #5 and a lever action .22 with a peep sight for when the leaves are down. Getting excited for the season just thinking about it.

Be careful with autocorrect here... :tearsofjoy:

I've killed 14 this fall so far. Another forum I'm a member of has had a squirrel contest going since season opened here in may, 3 guys are over 100 and one guy is over 200

Killed 2 and son killed 1 for a quick morning hunt opening day.

Tupelos, man. Tupelos. They're not on acorns good yet. Tupelos, cypress, hickory nuts, and maybe beech trees if you can find some that are still dropping.

Keep walking and look at the ground. Find the areas with the most cuttings, and set up shop. The first hour in the morning before the wind pics up is the easiest time to see them shaking branches and hear them cutting. Be prepared to make long, high shots up into thick canopy.

Oh i know the perfect place we are going. I was out there a few weeks ago, loaded with squirrels. I think they know when your hunting them and different animals honestly. Im really thinking about getting some judo tips for when deer season comes in.

It's like shooting does. Easiest thing in the world to do, until you go to do it!

Good luck!

Nutterbuster came over and we went scout some public land while making a lil squirrel hunt. It was tough hunting but we managed a few.
My kids are getting hooked now. My oldest been going behind the house and my youngest got the bug now. So I’m gonna start taking him. Squirrels are just down right fun!
Also played with some saddles. Got to get in a size 2 kite for the 1st time. I was impressed for the short time I was in it. Of course the kids had to play with it.

A'ight, I've had questions about how to skin and quarter squirrels. This video was originally intended for @redsquirrels private viewing pleasure, so the quality is abysmal, and there's one casual, blue-can induced naughty word towards the middle/end of the video. But this is how I clean squirrels:

Special thanks to @swampsnyper for showing how he cuts the back portion out without having to really cut the little stinkers.
