2nd Annual Family-Friendly Nutter Bustin' Contest

If the trad guys gotta compete against the wheelie bow kids, then the riflemen have to compete against the bazooka-bearers. Your self-imposed handicap ain't my problem.

My rifle is not a handicap, its an advantage. She shoots straight and a .22 through the head squirrel can't run off like a peppered shotgun squirrel.

Who'a ready to put the Alabama Hammer-Slammer on a big, freak-nasty limb-chicken? I know I'm ready for the tiny little bodies to hit the FLOOOORRRRR!

Rules are simple

1. Squirrels killed over bait piles and mineral licks SHALL NOT be counted. However, if it is legal in your state, you can submit kills that were made at night with a spotlight.

2. This is a family friendly event, and we encourage participation from The Little People. A member who takes a kid hunting may shamelessly count said kid's squirrels as his own.

3. We all want to portray hunters in a positive light. Please refrain from "Great White Hunter" poses, and make best efforts to clean up your kill. Photos should capture the majesty and dignity of your quarry. Make sure to tuck the tongue in, wipe any blood/spittle from the mouth, and if necessary plug the nostrils with cotton.

4. While not required, hunting squirrels with the aid of a saddle is encouraged.

5. Same applies for Crocs.

6. Please DO NOT ask when ANY gear from ANY manufacturer will ship to your address. I ain't Santa or the FedEx guy!

7. Trash talking is encouraged, but insults regarding a gentleman's dog or squirrel-killin' pole shall not be tolerated.

8. Any and all recipes alluded to are to be PM'ed to @Nutterbuster immediately upon request. Failure to abide by this rule shall result in contest dismissal.

9. If ya ain't got a sense of humor, go get one before you join in.

10. NutterBuster wins.View attachment 15824
I think that's the most tree rats I've ever seen in one spot...

OK, I'm in. I feel like a loser, but I have seriously never squirrel hunted.

How many do I need to shoot to make a proper meal 4?

Depends on how you cook them. If you're frying them, I'd say at least 2 squirrels per person. If you're doing them in a stew, dumplings, or pot pie, 4 will make about a pound of meat once picked.

2 more for me today. What .22 ammo are y’all using for squirrel? I should’ve had 4 today but 2 of them took shoulder shots and crawled off where I couldn’t find them. I’m currently using CCI Blazer41D524C5-7B5A-4BDF-97E8-FD1A8F4DF3D8.jpeg

Squirrels are surprisingly resilient to .22lr rounds in my experience. I rarely take shoulder/body shots. I prefer to shoot them in either the head or the neck. Easy shots I'll go head. If it looks dicey, I'll go neck because if I miss one way I'll catch brain, jf I miss the other I catch shoulder.

I prefer eley subsonics. Nice and quiet, with tight tolerances. Very accurate rounds out of my 452, easy on meat if I screw up, and doesn't interrupt the woods.

Federal bulk hollow points. 40gr. The heavier the quieter. Accurate enough for my range. I’ve only had one hit the ground running. And it was because I grazed him.

Cci subsonic standard velocity’s. Super accurate out of my savage mark 2. Also considerably quiet compared to mini mags and other high speed rounds. Also the sound of a solid lead point hitting a squirrel in the head is music to my ears

Lol, looks like you placed the kayak next to the quarry to provide relative size reference. Looks like about 6 feet of tree rats.

I took my father hunting for our first adventure in the woods together. He got his first nutter, a big fox squirrel, in over 50 years - I swore he was 12 years old again for a minute. I was hooping and hollering like he shot a big ole buck.

In other news, I made a quick shot on a little grey squirrel running down a branch at me. I hit about an inch in front of his head with the 17hmr. I'm not sure if it was the force of the bullet hitting the branch, or just him being scared to death. That sucker jumped right at me, from about 40' in the tree. He landed no more than 5' in front of me with a quite audible thud. Then he proceeded to scamper into a hollow cypress tree, which was evidently home to another very angry squirrel who started barking up a storm when he entered. Then all went quiet. Never came out!

We'll be back at them for sure. I can't wait to see that look on my old man's face again.
