8mm Oplux questions & uses

I did it...lol..the $$addlehuntingDIYaddiction.

Has anyone ascended with the oplux, I see my Petzl ascender is rated for 8mm.

No but I’ve been considering an OpLux SRT system as well. I’ll probably wait until Sterling replies to my email or someone else offers a 50’ section with factory sewn eye.

Could someone that has the sewn eye 8mm oplux tie a figure 8 on the other side, lay them next to each other and post a pic. Trying to decide if the sewn eye is worth it.

I can help with this when I get off work. The knots are small, but I do like the sewn eyes also.

After taking my pics I want all sewn eyes...lol.
Probaly not the best figure 8 either.

Has anyone sewn there own eyes? With the right thread and needle it does not look difficult.

I have a local place that can do them for $20 per eye - Perrysburg Knot and Rope Supply
The ones I have were ordered from Wild Edge.

It has probably been said on this thread but what size and type rope should I use for a prussic on the 8 mm Oplux? I got 2 ropes and 2 Kong Ducks. One for a lineman and one for a tether. I'm new to this and don't wanna end up on my back thinking, "dang that fall sucked"!

6mm Beal jammy. 50 cm to tie your knots. why are you running a prussic if you have kong ducks?

I am planning to use the Beal jammy and put it above the Kong duck as a back up. Is that not a good idea?

Running a backup is never a bad idea. Long as your confident in your setup. I recently sold my ropeman 1’s because of the recent chatter of them possibly cutting rope sheaths. I bought 8mm oplux and Beal jammys and they work just as easy as the ropemans.

I just bought the oplux/jammy combo from DanO last week. I can tell you to go ahead and DO IT!!! i really really like it.

Once a compared the size of my setup from Tethrd to my new setup I was amazed at the bulk that I dropped.

So if I get the 35 mm Beal jammy from doublesteps.com, they'll work as a back up right? Or do I need to get the 50mm one?

This setup is nice. If it feels too loaded up to pull back I just tend it up as normal then it's easy to adjust back.
@DanO I'm gonna need smaller pouches.

yes, i just did the same comparison. i dropped SO much bulk, and i gained strength! i can't say enough about how much i'm enjoying the oplux/jammy combo.

also, i have the 35cm, and it is plenty for my prusik.

8ft Oplux beal jammy with carabiners (tether and LB with tender)
vs
Tethrd tether and LB with ropeman 1s and carabiners

Same size sys haulers

Any chance you could share a photo of the comparison?

Wish I could for ya but the Tethrd tether is gone to a new owner. I promise you will not regret the move to the oplux. It took all of about 15 minutes to sale the ropeman and tethr on the Facebook saddle hunter page.

What DanO told me today is the 35mm jammy is the right size for a prusik.
