Aero kestrel bridge

A lot of hunters recently have been trying a whoopie bridge to figure out what length really fit's their hunting style (sitting, leaning, etc ...). But once you get it figured out, I would permanently splice on a fixed length bridge. Back up your whoopie tail with a half hitch though after adjusting. It takes like 3 - 5 seconds and will prevent the tail from slipping.

How long should a whoopie sling be? Just got the kestrel, and tried it in the back yard the bridge seems long.TIA

I feel the stock bridge is too long as well and the knots drive me crazy. Good news, it's tied with knots and it's too long. Easy fix, untie the week side knot and tie at a more desired length. Length issue fixed. Still left with knots though. I'm working on the bulky knot issue. Ordered a splicing kit today from wesspur. I'm going to make a spliced eye on the strong side bridge loop and attach a prusik knot to the week side. I'll post before and after pics in about a week. If it's still not to my liking, I'll order up the amsteel. Just play around with the bridge length to find your preference before making a permanent fix.

Do you think there is enough rope in the bridge to do two spliced eyes. There may not be enough room for both berries.
I think so. All you need is 1 fid length on each side which is 9 1/2 inches. The figure 8 knot should be close to 1.5 ft.

Are you going to saddlepalooza? I'd love to go myself but just have too much going on. Please pass along any ideas for a better bridge. FYI, I have a predator tether rope coming from wesspur today. It has a 5" spliced eye. I'm going to girth hitch it to my saddle and throw a prussic on the week side. I'll let you know what I think of it.
That's what I will probably do also. There's a video of the DIYSPORTSMAN with a prussick tied to his bridge loop with a double fisherman's knot. My prussick should be here today, so that's how I'll run it. Also, saw where a guy runs his linesman's as a separate backup bridge. I sat with my linesmans through the bridge bine (loosely hanging) and it makes pretty good sense.

an alternate way to determine bridge length that is cheap, easy to adjust and simply works great is tubular webbing. That's what I did on mine and once I got it where I wanted it, it stayed put. Lots of amsteel guys on here but the webbing is super light no bulk and slides great thru the carabiner. Dave T posted a video on here a long time ago on the water knot for adjustable bridges and it works great - easy to untie and adjust. just a thought - you ditch the bulky rope and knots that way. You can use your tether tail as a backup

Water knot... interesting. I'm going to look it up. The strong side knot is what drives me crazy. I'm working a rope splice fix there. I'll move on to webbing or amsteel if it doesn't fit the bill.

The knots worried me too, especially on the strong side. I felt like the tag of the knot was always sticking up waiting to interfere with my bow string. I spliced the strong side and attached with a Pezel Ring (a carabiner would work just as well) to get rid of the knot. For what its worth I left the weak side adjustable but a knot there won't affect anything if you prefer a fixed bridge. If your looking to slice the predator rope I recommend using this guy's method, its the best one I've found for splicing these tight sheath ropes.

I feel the exact same way. Seems to be a universal complaint. You would think it would come with a better solution. Thanks for the video... my splicing kit is in the mail. I'll post pic when/if it comes out right.

I use one of these, perfect size for me. I girth hitch one side and use a biner on the other

I ordered a predator rope tether from wesspur with a 5" spliced eye. It came in the mail this morning. I ran out and tried the girth hitch on the strong side bridge loop and prussic on the week. It's better than the original setup but just not exactly what I'm looking for. The rope is perfect for a tether though. I highly recommend it! Probably going to order another with a one inch eye for lineman rope. Just that nice. I'm now leaning towards a fixed amsteel bridge. Looks easy enough to splice. What size amsteel do you recomend?
How long of a rope did you order with the spliced eye, for your bridge?

Just realized you were asking about a bridge. I didn't order a bridge. I ordered a spliced eye tether. I just girth hitched the new tether to my bridge loop to see how I liked a girth hitched bridge. I like it better than knots but don't love it. I now have a splicing kit coming from wesspur. Going to just make my own spliced eye on the strong side bridge loop and run a prussik on the week. The rope that comes with the kestrel should be long enough for the mod.

Tried splitting an eye on predator rope today. Good grief.. I don't know if that stuff is even able to splice with a fid. There just doesn't seem to be any room while attempting the crossover. Does anyone have suggestions on a better way to splice samson predator rope?

I took Garrett s advice (in saddle mod video) and got mine done at the factory. Yeah, $20 per splice, but if it took HIM 3 hours, I didn't want to fool with it!!lol

I saw that one and said "no way 3 hours"! Lol. I may try another method, but the amsteel is already on order.

This video is the easiest method I've found. I thnk the combination of a wire fid (I made one with some .020 diamter safety wire) and thinning both the cover and core before starting the cross over helps. Don't get me wrong, its still not easy but I've made about a half dozen predator splices in the last year and this worked for me the first time and was complete inside of an hour. The bury is still tight and needs to be worked in but it was doable.

What do you mean by thinning the cover and core and how is this accomplished?
