aiders

I’d like to add to this thread. I’ve got a multi step aider just like the one in the video, plus a 2 step amsteel aider I’ve been dabbling with. Anyone use the wire aiders?

I’m trying to be more proficient with aiders for my climbs up. (I rappel down regardless of climbing method). Some climbs are good some are terrible. To be honest I’m kind of regretting cutting my sticks down even though they pack up much nicer.

Not being a smarta**. But what is the alternative to ending up upside down hanging from one foot?

lol, true

i always climb with a tether, so if things get squirrelly, i'd rather being hanging from the tether and more easily self rescue than to have my foot introduced as a complication

i've heard that with the tether and lineman's lanyard that it isn't possible to get hung up bad...but something about tying my foot to a tree seems wrong....i'm guessing a fall is more survivable than hanging upside down for a few hours

you won't get as high, but i find that a 1 step aider is only slightly harder than no aider

i was thinking of using the multi step on the bottom stick to get me to 7ft and then the wire aider in the top 3 sticks. That would be an additional 3 feet per stick plus whatever spacing I use, should have me between 18-20 ft.

I’ve had those in my cart for a long time, I’m trying to link up with a coworker who has them to give them a shot

Do they snag on brush and such when walking to your spot?
I also twist them. I also pack them vertically on my pack, so they don't see much brush. I have Novix mini sticks and they still nest/pack together, but you have to take your time undoing the sticks.

I used a single cable aider on my top steps last year and it worked out well. They hold there place well. I do have a 2 step aider on my bottom step.

I have used glow in the dark paint on the ends of the steps of my sticks. Thought about doing the same for steps of the aiders. Helps me see the steps well on my way down without shining my headlamp straight on them. Thanks for the advice all!
