Alternative (larger) platforms for saddle setups?

Good grief I'm starting to pile on options lol.

Just my opinion, but take your best guess on what you think you may like. You really won't know till you try something. What one person loves another person hates and sometimes for the same reason. LOL. I went with the Predator and with limited time using it, I just don't see myself changing. Maybe that will change with more tree time or if I get the desire to try something new. LOL.

The good thing about all of these platforms and saddles is if you buy one and don't like it, you can pretty much get most of your money back out of it. So it isn't like you are throwing money out the window completely.

Anyone try an amsteel whoopie on the ambush at the jaws?
What's one more cord? It could be 7/64 or 1/8" not load bearing but camming.
If the top doesn't separate I bet the platform will be like glue.

That's a good thing to hear! It seems like the market for accessories is always hot.

Id modify this slightly to say ‘you really won’t know what works best for you until you try something, and then try other things to compare.’

you can easily discover pros and cons of a piece of equipment by trying it. But with something this particular, it’s all relative unless you’re building it custom.

don’t sell yourself short either - toss a ring of steps in to try too. Maybe you’ll hate it and rule it out. Or maybe not.....

Well... I am a glutton for punishment. I ordered another Ambush. I hope they got their crap together.

I was told it will have a machined post and they are being made in the new manufacturing facility.

I have the OOL Ridge Runner and it is rock solid, the aluminum is thick and very stout. It doesn’t make a peep. I like the design better than welded mesh. The RR is a bit heavy but hangs nice and is very roomy.

I agree. Love mine and is worth the extra bit of weight IMO.

The only thing I'm leary about when I look at most of the commercial saddle kits is the size of the platform. I'm sure it's adequate for any needed movement, but what if you feel like you need something bigger? I know that fast moves to change shooting positions is a no-no, but I can't imagine that more size wouldn't be helpful for maneuverability. Is something like the Predator platform big "enough?" I'm not a big guy but it's better to think about this now than later.

I compared the bottom of my hawk self climber to my 3 sticks and weight wise I can’t tell the difference so I went out and tried my hawk base for a hunt.

The issue I had was that it’s not great to pack in, especially when trying to duck under branches and such. I also had to adjust the foot straps closer to the tree but even then I had to use a rope front and back to help me lift it up as I went.

The additional space was pretty much a waste too. I stood up completely on it a few times but half the size would have been just fine.

I also discovered that rappelling down with it was way nicer than climbing down with it in the dark. I just hooked my feet in and disengaged it from the tree and came straight down.

Who makes the ambush?

I chose to follow the demo of the SH’s that use the Predator as a means tk move around the tree, not as a platform on which to stand, except for brief stretch breaks. It amounts to finding a comfortable sitting or leaning position and using the “edges” of the platform. I’d suggest that it’s far more comfortable doing this with boots that gave more firm support on the soles. Search for their youtube videos. Here is but one of many available.
