Nice! Are you doing that as a Remage barrel?

445 Supermag, that's a good round you don't hear to much about these days. What are you going to be shooting it out of? I've long wanted to do 375 Supermag for deer hunting in a Contender but have never gotten around to it.

Yes. 26” 1/7.5 twist matte stainless on a black action with a black and gray Boyd varmint thumb hole. Heavy spotter contour to keep some weight down for carrying but heavy enough to not heat walk when range shooting.

That'll shoot great. I used one of their barrels for a 260 a few years ago and have been very happy with it. The 30 BR I mentioned in the OP is my 2nd Remage although it's not a CBI. The 260 shot well off the bat but at about 100 rnds is when it really settled in.

Is your 300BR barrel a McGowen? I’m stocked to finish up my build. I love the 6.5x55 Swede caliber. It just flat shoots.

It's a Krieger but it didn't start off life as a Remage barrel. It was a standard shouldered barrel that a benchrest shooter was using. When it needed to be set back he rechambered it and converted it to a shoulderless barrel. So the barrel has some miles on it but the price was right and will probably shoot better than I can while learning the ropes.

I've loaded .308 and -06 for friends
Used to also load 12 gauge comp sporting clay loads and skeet loads

I don't load as often as I used to but once I have a load built I usually knock 50 off in bathes of 25 at a time.

I load all my rifle, pistol and shotgun ammo (except .22 rimfire, of course).

I like working up loads for rifles, finding the best combination of powder, bullet, and (sometimes) primer. A guy can save some real money on shotgun shells if he shoots many .410, 16 ga. or 28 ga. shells. With pistol, you need a source for cheap or free brass to make it pay--I shoot mostly at outdoor ranges and most brass disapears into the grass.

When my daughters were young and shooting a lot of youth trap, I could really make that old MEC 9000 rock.

Reloading is therapudic.

I have a buddy that has offered to help me learn. I need to take him up on it. I bought a 1953 Wingmaster (original production year:)) that I want to use as my designated duck gun, but it's a 16 gauge! Kinda troublesome to find factory steel loads for it, but it's a sweet little creek shooter. I'd like to see what could be whipped up for it.
Don't shoot steel through that old gun, especially if it has a full choke. There are some "soft" tungsten-blend shots available for reloading that won't harm your barrel, will pattern very well, and will hit ducks harder than steel will. Bismuth shot is another, albeit mediocre choice.

You bring up a great point.

I actually spoke with 2 different representatives with Remington before I bought the gun. Both assured me that any 870 barrel that had ever been manufactured was compatible with modern steel loads. I gave them the year, serial, everything. I thanked the first guy and assumed he was full of you-know-what. I called the next day and got a different rep. He said exactly the same thing. I asked point blank: "So Remington's official stance is that it is safe to shoot steel out of a 1953 wingmaster?" He never skipped a beat, and stated that they had never been able to replicate barrel failure, even though they had heard stories. He stated that even though it was an old gun, it was relatively modern in design. He said a new 870 barrel was basically the same beast as on old one. He did say they didnt recommend anything tighter than a modified choke, and that the old chokes were not universally approved for steel.

I know my buddy has an old A5 that he shoots bismuth out of. I'd like to try it, but I've shot over 100 rounds of high-brass steel with no evidence of anything being awry. It's an IC, so theres that as well.

I'm not saying you're wrong. It may banana on me this weekend. But I did check with the manufacturer.

If my old Browning A5's had IC chokes, I probably wouldn't have retired them from waterfowling. The tight chokes were the biggest problem. Enjoy your gun!

The 375 is an underappreciated cartridge. I saw recently Starline is going to have brass coming out soon, hopefully that breathes some new life into it. What bullets are you using?
