Anybody gone back to mobile stands?

I hear you. That is why I am constantly on craigslist, Facebook marketplace place, and the classifieds here. What happens a lot is guys get the new toy and sell the old toy OR sell the old toy to pay for the new toy.
I picked up 2 climbers, a lock on, and sticks all for under $120 last off season.

In time, if you want it so. I've got gear I use from 40 years ago. I bought stuff that was quality on purpose.
I hear ya, but not all of us can afford to have two several-hundred-dollar setups for a primarily-recreational endeavor...

I never quit using climbers. I have a few that stay out in the woods padlocked to a tree. My saddle is a tool for the right situations. It gets used accordingly. I can't sit all day in a saddle. I can sit even less in a lock-on stand. I can make it in a Summit climber though. I have some areas with very tall very straight trees I can get around 40' up and see a long ways. Those get the climber and I usually hunt them with a rifle.

Once I started one-sticking I all but stopped using my LW hand climber. I used it one time last year, I was running late AND I knew I could get up in a new tree WAY faster. DOWN side, it was so freakin heavy and exhausting going in I vowed never to use it again UNLESS I had a known tree that wasn't hard to get to. Once the LWCG 11lb Crossover climber was announced, I sold my hand climber and pre-ordered the Crossover! I'm looking forward to seeing how light it feels on a long hike threw some nasty dense cover.

True, gear selection is driven by hunter preference. As a result, what's equal across the board gets a bit convoluted, as not all boards are equal.

For me:

Knee pads, never use 'em. I'll knee into my pack or into my frame pack belt occasionally, & the seat pad of my .5.

I have a saddle that weighs 1lb 11oz. There's saddles that weigh 1lb, I don't choose them. What does a safety harness weigh? Doesn't matter, I'm saddle hunting anyway, lol, so I don't choose those either.

Never seen, used, or needed an underquilt. I use the same bibs I've used since before I saddle hunted.

Anyway, those are my choices. They don't need to be anyone else's. Milage almost always varies. There's no best, just best for oneself.

JRB basically hunts from ropes. He could carry a bowling ball with him and my usual setups would be bulkier and weigh more.

Even if it wasn't that close a quality frame pack carries so much better and I will gladly pay the weight penalty on long walks.

Anyone have the Bullman strap on steps? I'm thinking about them. I could drop about 5 lbs off my setup.
I have 12 of the Apex steps.
I do not ever plan on using 12. But I can take 3 full length sticks, weight 7lbs 11oz and add 3 Apex steps, 14oz and get 12 steps high, total 8lbs 9oz.
Two sticks, 5lbs 2oz plus 6 Apex 1b 12oz, total weight 6lbs 14oz.
I don't mind hanging some steps when both of my feet are on the ground.Screenshot_20230423_105940_Gallery.jpgScreenshot_20230420_143357_Gallery.jpgScreenshot_20230420_143417_Gallery.jpg
