Anyone else hunting with an E-Bike this year?

I was dead set on getting one, but don't think I need it. My regular MTN bike gets me to my spot from the road in just 26 minutes. As compared to the 1.5 hr walk last year. An ebike would likely save me just an additional 10minutes. 10 minutes isnt worth a couple grand to drop

More health benefits too.

I know this has been my conundrum as well. I already have a decent mountain bike not sure I need to spend the $$$ but the other obvious benefits like quick up hill back home trips after hunting etc. have me still wanting one. Wants and needs can be interesting.

Ebikes have a major misconception. I was under the impression it was just push a button and go. That is not the case. You still have to pedal. Just as much as regular bikers and at least on mine you don’t have to have the assist. Mine you can choose the level of assist. I pedaled just as hard and as much as others yesterday. That said. I had my daughter in a cart so I would use the assist on hills. Allot of misinformation about them. Especially after getting on mine now.

Guess it depends on the bike and user. The folks I know that have e-bikes are not peddling hardly at all, by their admission.

Now I’ve seen those too. Yes I’m sure there is difference in people. Of course there is those that don’t want to pedal.

I got mine after I had a severe injury/surgery on my leg to help me out hunting. Some are elderly but want outside. There will, in my opinion, be some limitations of access to them forever.

According to the Doc, I'm healthy as as a good horse.......I LOVE my e-bike. If I wanted exercise, I'd jog around the woods. Call me Lazy, Fat, Slow, Dumb, Touched......I don't care. I will use my pedal assist, cruse along at a leisurely pace, not sweat and otherwise Enjoy the Ride In/Out!

PS: I'm Old! Have a great day

Ah. After I seen the amount of trail damage the regular mtn bikers caused yesterday it’s a moot point to me anymore. They have to have a study for ebikes but already have trails dug up and mangled by standard mtn bikes. I seen it with my own two eyes.
I’m not sure Mtn bikes and Ebikes are an apples to apples comparison. The riding style of Mtn bikers and hunters on Ebikes are different, as is the equipment. Mtn bikes tire width generally fall at 2.25” while Fat tire Ebikes fall in 4-5“ and typically run much lower tire pressures, both of which spread the load over a wider footprint. Coupled with a totally different riding style, wouldn’t that result in significantly less damage to the terrain? Addtionally, many are just looking to ride on regular, improved roads that are behind closed gates during hunting season. Don’t know, just have to wait and see how things play out.

Ebikes are like crossbows, just another excuse for those unwilling to put in the effort needed to get it done. Ebikes should be illegal in areas restricted to foot or bike traffic only.

The reason for those rules are to keep wilderness areas wilderness and yes, hunting way back in them is not for everyone. If you’re too old, fat, or lazy to get back in them on foot or on a bike that god forbid you have to pedal yourself then hunting wilderness areas is not for you.

Every time there's a thread about ebikes one of you guys has to pop in. Nobody cares you don't like them. Nobody. Move on to a different thread

If my comment offends you, ditch the ebike.

Nothing i said was off base, only facts. No one is fooling anyone the ONLY reason someone would choose an ebike over a bike is because it makes it easier. Well, that makes ya lazy brother.

You both have your opinions and you won't change either's. My opinion is somewhere in between, do I need an ebike? No. Would it make things easier? Yes. Does that make me lazy? Not in my opinion. Who is anyone on here to judge someone else's effort. Maybe I just don't want to get sweaty, so I use a tool to cover distance, similar to driving a car, or using climbing equipment to get up a tree instead of climbing like a monkey. Don't like it, don't do it, but start calling other people lazy and passing judgement? Now we are getting into the land of internet tough guy crap.

Trad/compound/crossbow/airbow
Walk/bike/ebike/quad/side-by-side/truck

Who cares do you and follow the law.

I call it an electric motor cycle seeing as it has an ELECTRIC MOTOR so keep ‘em out of wilderness areas.
Aren't wilderness areas restricted to strictly horse and hike traffic (i.e. no bikes)? At least that's what I've seen in CO and MO, kinda makes this a moot point.
And yes, if you want to hunt 4 miles in but don’t want to sweat doing it i AM going to judge you as softer than babyshit and i AM going to laugh at you and yes i WILL offend you.
Bold of you to assume we care about your opinion :tearsofjoy: :tearsofjoy:

If we call them electric motor cycles suddenly they are no longer allowed on public land where only non motorized foot or bike traffic is allowed. Well, it’s powered by a battery and uses an electric motor does it not? What about “non motorized traffic only” do lazy people not understand? I call it an electric motor cycle seeing as it has an ELECTRIC MOTOR so keep ‘em out of wilderness areas.

And yes, if you want to hunt 4 miles in but don’t want to sweat doing it i AM going to judge you as softer than babyshit and i AM going to laugh at you and yes i WILL offend you. How you deal with that is your problem. If you don’t want to break a sweat there are always video games and tv watching.
I guess acting tough on the internet makes you feel cool but I don't give a crap about your opinions, You look childish, I'm not offended. We're strangers on the internet and I'd have no problem looking you in the eye and shaking your hand if we ever meet in person. I'll probably make a joke about you trying to be an internet tough guy if we ever do, but follow it up with acknowledging that you're a more accomplished hunter than I am at the moment ;) (aren't you in maryland btw, there's a chance this could happen unless I'm remembering incorrectly) I ended my last point with the most important thing I said (in my opinion). Just follow the law and you're good. Ebike legal? Go for it. Against the regs? Don't. Your personal opinion on whether or not people are lazy is immaterial, but has been heard. Over. And over. The rest of the people that have some interest in this (currently legal) activity are still going to talk about it.

It's interesting to me how these arguments parallel the crossbow archery debates. It's really the same thing. Some people seem to get fixated on older technologies and cry foul (or lazy, or whatever) whenever something new comes along. Isn't a regular mtn bike an advanced technology that makes locomotion significantly easier than walking or running? Are users of such labor saving devices lazy?

"My tech is acceptable but your new stuff is bad!" is common enough that it is obviously a very natural human reaction. Change is unsettling? My ways are better than yours? The way I live is superior to the way you live? My tribe is better than your tribe?

In the crossbow arguments someone inevitably points out the excellent observation that those against should advocate for hewing your own bows and napping your own stone broadheads (avoiding any technological assistance). Yet even the knowledge of building hand made archery tools is a technology that disrupts. If tech is to be avoided, it seems we are left to assault prey with our hands, nails, and teeth. Given this discussion it apparently should also be done on foot. Barefoot that is.

My 2 cents.

I usually don’t do this. But I’ll bet allot of money your not in the shape I am. I use one for my injury. I actually just left therapy and due to my physical condition I’ll be done much quicker than most. Now with that said. Why not help yourself out. Play stupid games win stupid prizes. I’m 6’2 240 and an uphill mile before my break I was at 1200’ elevation gain in a mile in sub 28 minutes. So before you go after lazy or out of shape. Think before you assume.

Don't let yourself get baited into an unnecessary internet argument, you know you're doing the right thing for you, go enjoy your season. I hope you both shoot a giant (and me too lol) ebike or not.

All I know is someone way better than me is the ultimate judge, who am I to judge anyone? I just want to learn about getting an ebike and trying to determine if I need one. I may use one completely on the private land I have to hunt as I want a quiet access that is quick for getting in after or before work. Or, to hide that I'm in an area so others don't start thinking they should hunt there. My truck sitting at spots get other people thinkin'. I don't want them thinkin' about where or what I'm hunting.

Yall are too much. Throwing around “wilderness” like that. No bike is allowed in what is actual designated (by congress) “wilderness”. Also, you will see class 1 e bikes allowed on bike trails here soon once your local forest/districts do their NEPA and do a CE on them. Its already done on the Tahoe I believe, Lincoln nf is working on it currently and the forests near me are so i assume its happening at the local levels now that the classes have been designated nationally. Every forest down to the district has different ways they will manage them.
