Anyone else using a schwabisch hitch on their tether?

I just tried a 5 wrap Michocan hitch with a 8mm Oceans Prussia cord on my Poison Ivy tether using DMM Hitchclimber pulley and a DMM oval biner works very smoothly.

The micho is basically a closed form version of a Blakes hitch. Adjust the wraps to taste.

The Knut hitch was always my favorite non-VT hitch but may have to give the Michoacan another whirl

What knot or hitch are you using to connect the Distel to a caribiner? Thanks

So, I'm using a Bluewater 8mm VT prusik for my schwabisch hitch which is a bit longer than I'd like. Its length requires that I place my tether as high as possible in the tree. If I wrap an additional upper and lower loop in the hitch, to shorten it up, will that cause me any issues?

You can add wraps to the top, but not the bottom. Adding wraps will increase the friction in the hitch. Does your prusik cord have spliced eyes?

Yeah, I haven't decided if I'm going to shorten my bridge to allow the use of a VT, or just run a Ropeman1. I'll run the Ropeman1 for a while and see how I like it. If you've got some extra prusik cord lying around, you could tie a shorter one for the schwabisch. Though, I know a lot of guys like the sewn/spliced eyes for the bulk and weight reduction.

Thanks for the info on tenders. I hunted an inaugural no ropeman hunt today. I like the DIY less than $3 / each tenders I put together.

I use blue water assault 11.4mm and 8mm Armor-prus for hitch cord. And Black Diamond rocklock twistlock biner. And am using distel friction knot.

I bought the mini-biner and strap at Lowe’s by the place where they make keys. Less than $3. Sharpied the strap black, stealth strip the biner. Futzed around with the length of the distel hitch until i minimized movement after tending slack (shortening the distance).

The whole thing weighs just a smidge over 1/3 of what a ropeman weighs (for all the ounce counters).

Definitely different feeling tending slack with this than with the ropeman. I think I am going to stay with this.

Great, I think that this will be my next project. Ropeman 1 is squeaky. Thank you for posting that. JJ

Very well done! I like it.

Just getting into the saddle side and all these options just BLEW my mind....I feel like I need a cigarette and haven't smoked in 13 yrs.... o_O

I Also like the Swabish Hitch but just run my tether tail through my caribeaner. Easy to pull to adjust. The caribeaner acts as a tender itself.
