Anyone Handgun Hunting from a Saddle?

Yeah I think Its only 4.75" barrel its a convertible (comes with a 9mm cylinder) too. I think it was targeted more for the cowboy action folks but a buddy of mine had it and didn't want it anymore and so the price was right. I bought it like 7 years ago with no intent on using it for hunting but I'll see how it shoots. I'm a decent shot with a handgun but have never really shot long range with one. I'm thinking its a 40 yards and less piece.

Right on. A good price is a good price. I set my scope at 75 yards which is just at the long end of the round. I’d go out to 90/95 on a calm perfect broadside shot with the Buffalo Bore stuff. It has a much higher velocity and better trajectory than the average load. Anything inside of 75 is absorbing much more energy that anything can live through. Big pigs can’t carry it Far even though no exit to blood trail by. Kinda have to follow the sign left by the running game. I’ve not had the chance to shoot a deer with it yet as I kinda setup for longer shots with rifle on them. This pig was shot in the ear at 65 yards. I will preface that with a very solid rest on rail off a box stand and at a feeder but was about 175 and DRT E154280C-24F9-407B-A918-4D4A4FE2EF00.jpeg

Never gone out with the intention of handgun hunting, but I pretty much always carry an old S&W Highway Patrol .357. It's like a good luck charm... come to think of it, I was carrying a G23 when I got skunked this past season, hmm...

Anyway, I seem to have better luck killing grouse with that gun than I do when actually grouse hunting. You counting that?

Don't be too surprised if that thing is actually pretty accurate .
My Blackhawk shoots great. It'll group at 100 yards better than some people's deer rifles.

I'm hoping so. Its built like a tank.

As a retirement gift to myself, I decided to jump back into handgun hunting. :)
I found one heck of a deal on a R.I.A. Pro Match Tact Ultra 6" HC, in 10mm. I purchased a base plate from EGW and a Holosun red dot sight, then had a local gun smith install them. I gotta do some reloading, then I'll be headed out to the range to see how she shoots.

Last year I hunted a lot with my Remington R1 in 10mm. However I pushed the retirement from the Air Force button on Friday, and this was my gift. 7D478AFF-7588-4EB8-9DF1-6CE4021111BA.png
Super Blackhawk .44, 7.5”. Burris base mounted. My Fast Fire III is on the 10mm currently. It was between this and a S&W PC .460. After I ran 40 rounds through it so far, it is enough gun for me. Also, I can find ammo for this which is nice.

Nice! It looks like it comes with scope rings????

Not to derail, but expand this post. I have a TC Encore rifle. Has anyone gone the route of making that into a pistol? What caliber? I am leaning to a 10" barrel 44 mag with a red dot on top?

OR ... Do I just go with a 308 or smaller rifle round (above .23 I live in Virginia.)

If it started life as a rifle it is illegal to make it a pistol. The frame has to start life as a pistol, then it can go back and forth, wierd I know.

I have a g1 contender with 10” 357 max I plan to unleash on some deer this year. It has an ultradot matchdot on top.

Are you sure about that legality? I can change my AR platform all day long from a pistol grip to a shoulder stick. I just can't have the short barrel on at the same time as the wrist brace.

^^^ me thinks that you would still have to have that registered as an SBR with the short barrel?
Then if you put the brace on it it becomes a pistol.

Just 'cause you can make an AR whatever you want doesn't mean it's legal...

(I'm glad the ATF hasn't stopped at my place!)

It’s not matter of ability to do it. And I doubt a co would check the how the frame is registered. However, it is illegal to do. Registering as a sbr changes everything. There is plenty of internet discussion on it.

Ok, I will look into it. The gun shop around the corner sells them as a pistol. If you can shoulder the weapon it is a rifle, hence the Short Barrel RIFLE stamp. Not a Short Barrel Pistol stamp.

Congratulations on your retirement!!!
How do you like the R1?
Also, what you have there is a Super Redhawk. The Blackhawk is a western style action in single shot only. I've owned a couple of Blackhawks and didn't care for the western style pistol grip.

Haha. You are correct. Not sure if I typed that or if my phone autocorrected when I typed as I was researching both over the past few years/months/weeks/days. As for the R1, I really like that pistol. I just can’t justify both to be honest. Shoots better than I do. Likes Buffalo Bore way more than some of the cheaper stuff. Like to fail to feed with cheaper ammos. Just my experience.
