Anyone not using a peep?

For years we used to just clamp a brass nock set on the string where the peep would go. You can see it in your peripheral vision at full draw. Some of us painted them in white or yellow but to me it just looked dark but you could still see the silhouette of the nock set which was sufficient. You adjusted it to you like you do a peep. A piece of serving tied on would probably provide the same "bump" on the string at full draw. There is a larger diameter "shurz-a-peep" that has been on the market for years. Its simple and pretty cheap. In the relaxed position, the shurz-a-peep is completely perpendicular to the string; at full draw, the opening is so large you can't help but see through it. Its not as tidy of a sight picture as a typical peep but you won't have to pass a shot at a dusk or dawn buck for not being able to see through it. You serve it in as you would any peep. These have less rotation issues as well because you divide the bowstring up into thirds to mount it and like I said, the opening is huge.

Frustrated with peep rotation in early spring this year when I replaced my string, said the heck with it, and I will say, its like going commando - it just feels good, and natural. My form is better, I pay more attention to my release and anchor of course, and I am shooting better groups. And not just 30 yards - been out to 80 no problems. Feels good. For anyone on the fence I say give it a go, you might be pleasantly surprised. And if your not, put the peep back in and go back to what you are comfortable with.

I could hug all of you right now. I've been to the shop twice to fix my peep this year. Each time we untie the peep and move it to where I say it's good. Each time he tied it in and I just assumed (stupid me..) it was good and left the shop. Each time it was 2 low. Got so fed up with that stupid rubber hose breaking and the peep had goofy twist to it. My achor points were gone when I tried looking through the peep and my confidence has been very low and frustration level very high.

Read through this thread and when out to the garage, spread the string with a flathead screw driver and popped the peep out. Pulled back to my anchor points and boom baby! Sight picture awesome! Can't wait for first light tomorrow to throw some arrows. Can't thank you guys enough for talking me into getting rid of that stupid thing!

I had terrible experiences with a peep. Lost a huge doe years ago when the rubber tube slapped me on the lower lip as I came to full draw. Really stung because I was cold anyhow. Needless to say, she flipped me off and ran. I used a hind sight for a long time and liked it better. Finally got an IQ 5 pin about 5 years ago, cut off the top green pins and use the orange one. Love it! You can't believe how much different positions will cause you to torque (me anyhow) your bow.

Cut off the top green pins?? You have peaked my curiosity.

Are you guys able to shoot tight groups without the peep? I've shot roughly 300 shots without mine and I can't seem to get very consistent grouping. I'd say 9 out of 10 of my shots are in a 5 inch circle but 1 in 10 is off the mark. I'd like my groups to be more in the 2 inch circle.

5 inch circle at 100 yards is amazing. :)

Seriously, what kinda yardage are you shooting? I'm plenty happy with a 5" circle at 30-40 yards, and I shoot tiny deer.

I put a Bowmar nose button on mine. It helps me reinforce my correct/consistent anchor point. I've never had a peep on my bow but I used a red dot sight for many years and centering the dot in the sight assured my anchor point so I got spoiled and lost good anchor point control. Now I'm shooting a EZ-V so there's no pin to put on the target but with the Bowmar I'm shooting better than I have in decades. The best part is the Bowmar is inexpensive and easy to install yourself and doesn't interfere with your sight picture.

I got 1 pin sighted in at 26 yards. Pretty much everywhere 10 yards to 35 yards I'm in that 5 inch circle. In that 5 inch circle Im kinda all over the place.

Read this a while ago. Was curious. I was tuning my new bow this afternoon. For the life of me I had this most awful left tear. Kept playing with stuff. Finally cut the peep off and solved the issues. It was making me torque my bow big time. Will consider the nose button once I get my arrows built and see how my accuracy is. I don't like that guy who makes them. So might try something else to use.

I use an EZV and nothing else. I’m starting to realize as a new member here that almost every archery shop I walk into thinks we are all lunatics, dumb or have no clue what we are doing. I show up with the new Mathews V3 27 and an EZV, nothing else and I’m bare shaft tuning a 200g field point, 100g insert and 250 spine and the guy working actually said “that’s the dumbest thing I’ve seen lately.” I quickly said “check mirror” and went on shooting.

Anyways, we are all here because we are brave enough to try non standard things. Try it. If it isn’t for you go back.

I bought an ezv last year. I really wanted to like it. I shoot it at deer 3 times last season. 1 hit low or high. 2nd hit high and recovered. 3rd was a follow up attempt at the same deer. Way low. I can't rule out a branch didn't have anything to do with it on 1or 3. But it killed my confidence in the thing. It's sitting on the shelf for now. I really want to like it... But those misses are still embedded in my mind..

Just send it to me.....it is cursed for sure

This may sound counterintuitive but for me my shooting got better with the ezv when I turned the inserts around so I couldn't see the tic marks. I found I was trying to geuss my yardage and place the lines instead of using the sight as designed.

Were you using the tick marks or just the V? Did you practice with a 3D target in the off-season? Just wanting to know, I plan on getting a 3d target in the next week or so.

Just the v. I was guessing at distances when I had it flipped to the tick side and not concentrating on the v. I shot a lot in the off season with just a standard block target. The circle on my target was roughly the right diameter to match the vitals.

Taking the peep off helped with the ezv too because I wasn't spending time trying to align my peep then starting my aiming process. Without the peep I just naturally start aiming sooner and don't have to rush as much.

Ditto on the nose bottom too, it's well worth looking into.

I just recently ditched the peep and made a small ball with string serving, which has worked great. Still need to work on anchor control a bit, yet I feel so much more comfortable without the peep and am certainly accurate enough to kill deer within 30 yds. If I had the money I would look into an IQ sight, but not sure this is necessary.
