Are knots for webbing just as safe as sewed loop?

I’ve used water knots with tubular nylon to do some pretty wild emergency rappelling stuff in the military, when those knots set they’re rock solid.

I've made plenty of aiders using water knots and beer knots, I never had a problem. When using a water knot, leave plenty of tag end, and as suggested by @raisins , stitching helps prevent potential slippage.

As @Brocky suggested, the beer knot is better, but slightly more difficult to tie.

I'd call that a solid 5/8....will a "normal" run of the mill industrial sewing machine be able to pierce?

Not even sure the 1508 NH will handle that. If I’m not mistaken mine can only handle materials up to 15mm... like I said if sewing something that thick, obviously hand sewn or a HiTex heavy duty machine would be necessary.
