Are lone wolf sticks worth the money?

Personally I was never a fan of them. Foot pegs are too small for me and wear awful. If you have big feet it’s not fun. They were the best when they came out. They just never changed anything over time so other options have come and are often favored over lone wolf.

Should have plenty of options later this fall for used gear. Tons of guys over on the hunting beast all upgraded to dans fixed double step sticks.

I have 4 and love them. The single step was never really an issue. But there are a lot of people on hear who like the double step and I can totally see the upside to it. Like you I wanted something streamlined. If you are smaller the earlier suggestion of cutting them down and adding an aider is not a bad one. I'm 6 ft and wouldn't really want no e any longer. As long as you stick (get it) to one of the ones recommended on this site you will be happy.

I use 4 lone wolf sticks and single step aiders on the bottom 2 sticks. While they do work, my biggest complaint is not having double steps. In my opinion, it would be much easier setting up your base for run and gun sits with sticks that had double steps. Due to the bulk and weight of sticks, I think I'm going to try the wild edge stepps with the knaider/swaider this year.

I have quite a few LW sticks and love them as well. Before I started saddle hunting, I never gave the single steps a second thought however there is obviously a benefit to having double steps....especially on the top of the stick. However, as a few others have mentioned, the folding step really streamlines things and is less likely to get hung up on stuff depending on how you carry them.

I was really thinking of trying the muddy sticks this year but the quality control recently has scared me somewhat. I started one-sticking last season and have tried various double step mods to my LW sticks. In an effort to keep a folding step of sorts, I use two different mods depending on the size of the tree. I'll see if I can post a few pictures. Please keep in mind that I only weigh around 150# and have small feet so I am willing to try and can get away with things that many bigger guys can't.

I like my LW but I like my Muddy much more. I like the double steps and the rope beats the strap.
Some guys have modified their LW to a rope. I want to do that to mine.
Anyone have a link to that thread?

No sir I didn't, I have no experience with the Muddy rope setup as of yet. I did try ditching the LW strap in favor of a small diameter rope with prusik knot at one point but I always seem to come back to the strap.

That's what kept me away from Muddy . I have 4 lonewolf sticks, 3 Hawk helium sticks with versa buttons and lonewolf straps and 10 Wild Edge steps with their aider. I like them all and depends what I feel like using.

Hey man if you get to East TN and want to try my lone wolf sticks before you buy some you are welcome to try them.

I have used the same three LW sticks since 2005 with no complaints. That said my next set of climbing sticks will be Heliums. Only a small wt increase but you get the double step which is awful nice to have when handing the sticks and platform . Heck of a lot cheaper too

I have hunted with the same set of 4 since they started selling them. My sticks have many many hunts. If you pack in and out LOTS eventually the steps will sag from contacting the stop bolt. Just flip them over and you have fresh aluminum....next I installed large bolts..... Lone Wolf is Good stuff Can't go wrong!

I prefer double steps.
The most mod’able sticks out there are the Hawk Heliums. Lots of guys on here have mods done on them.
If I had the coin, I would have ordered a couple sets of Dan Infalts sticks in a HEARTBEAT. Got to see the prototypes this spring and they are awesome.

I like double steps, too. I own one set of LW and one set of Muddy. I love the rope and double steps on the Muddy. I'm not crazy about 4 sticks as opposed to the 3 stick LW set. But I wish LW were rope instead of strap. Everything is a trade off, I guess.

Are the Dan Infalt steps available? Any links to pics or other info?

Guys just buy a couple of Dano's double steps and swap them out on your lone wolf sticks. They just bolt right on although you will need a longer bolt.

I just put one double step on the top stick in the middle step. That way I can set the predator platform hook up the tree tether and still have one step to go up to step down on the platform
