Asio Gear or Sitka

Yes I’m planning on using it for 40 and below sits. I was thinking I could make the stratus work with those temps with some good layering, fanatic neck gaiter and beanie but the asio sounds like it may be a bit warmer minus the stratus’s 100% windproof capabilities. The fanatic seems like a little much for down here most of the time. Thanks for your input!

I agree with @shmelton. I have a lot of Sitka. Stratus at 40 or below is pushing it. Don’t get me wrong, you can layer up and make it work in the mid 30’s. Stratus is windproof, which is one of its major advantages. So it can serve as a nice shell. It also sheds water pretty good too. But I don’t like too many layers. If the system is good enough, it’s nice when you can get by with a single light base layer. The Fanatic can work like that for certain low temps. In extreme cold, teens to sub zero, you gotta add layers to anything to get your comfort level. Fanatic is windproof too, which to me is one of the most important features of a garmet for helping maintain warmth. Many claim windproof, but Sitka uses Windstopper and it works. I can also speak for Sitka durability and quality. Its excellent. I do not have any Asio…yet. But who knows, I may try some.

Ordered the Asio set the other day. It said 3 day shipping so it may arrive today. If it will handle wind up to 15 or so it should be fine for me. I seldom hunt in winds over that as our deer generally hole up if it gets that high or higher.

Let me know what you think of them ^^

im torn between the two honestly cant decide on which one. From the sounds of it, the asio Sherpa is warmer than the Sitka stratus. Maybe they’ll run a good Black Friday deal and I can test it out. Wish the asio sherpas came in bibs instead of just pants.

They’ve got bibs. I’m trying to decide between them, the FL solitude and the stratus currently.

Oh they dang sure do. I was thinking the bibs were the late season, thanks for that

I’m well invested in Sitka gear and love their stuff. I just wish they had a different whitetail pattern. I feel like I get picked off quite a bit. If I had to do it again I’d get asio gear, at least for my outer layers.

I feel quite concealed in their elevated pattern. You can get most of their whitetail line in the other patterns too.

Anyone have the late season Asio jacket? I have their mid season jacket and bibs and really like it. I’d like to pick up the Asio or fanatic jacket since Sitka is on sale and Asio will be on Friday.

New kit is better than I was expecting based on the pics I looked at. Based solely on trying it all on at the house, I like every single piece. The l/xl beanie fit me perfectly and that virtually never happens. Same for the gloves. The midweight hoody, to me. is more of a lightweight/midweight hybrid but fits well and has a nice hood facemask combo. It also fits loose enough to put a layer under it but it is not a loose fit. The pant fit feels different than any hunting pant I have tried. They have a snug feel in the thighs and I was concerned about layering under them so I added a base layer and a pair of sweat pants and they basically felt the same. There is a stretch panel in the inner thigh area and it accommodates layer very well. With the additional layers I had zero binding or loss of range of motion in any movement. The jacket fits well too but not as fitted as the sitka pieces I have or have tried on. The sleeves have a comfortable stretch cuff and are well fitted for me. The chest is not as fitted but is not overly baggy at all. Enough room to add layering and not be too tight or binding. Both the hoody and jacket have zippered range finder pockets on the right chest which I like. All of the pockets on the pant and jacket are zippered and the jacket pockets are have the same sherpa lining, should be toasty. The sherpa lining is a short sherpa so it doesnt feel bulky like some other sherpa lined stuff I have tried on. All the sewing looked good at least all I checked which was most but not all of it.

They advertise it as windproof which I do not expect to truly be the case but if it will sufficiently block the wind up to 15 mph I think it will work very well and cover a fairly wide range of temps with layering. Wind above 15 here pretty much shuts down movement so I seldom hunt in high wind conditions. Materials are plenty quiet but not absolutely silent. When I say plenty I mean I have zero reservations about bowhunting in it from a noise perspective. If it turns out to be reasonably durable and decently good at blocking wind, it will be a spectacularly good purchase at the price.

I have the Stratus jacket and bibs. I have had success with it properly layered down to the mid 20s. Now I run hot, so your mileage may vary. On the day I shot my buck last year it started at 25 and gradually warmed into the mid 30s with 10-15 mph winds. I shot him at 2:00 and was comfortable. Here was my system:

Top:
Core Lightweight Hoody
Under Armor 3.0 Base layer
Fanatic Hoody
Stratus Jacket

Bottom:
Core Lightweight Bottom
Under Armor 3.0 Pants
Stratus Bibs

I love the flexibility of the Stratus. Can wear it alone up to about 60, and properly layered for me it can get me into the 20s.

They’re both on sale right now I may get both and send one back. Thanks for the input guys. I haven’t been able to find a good picture of the Asio Sherpa cuffs on the sleeves. But I know the stratus looks comfortable

I’ve got the Verdigre stuff. It doesn’t have a windproof liner but it’s pretty close to windproof. I really like the pants a lot. The jacket is nice too but I wish it had a draw string or was more fitted closer to my waist. I have a $100 gift card I’m thinking about trying out the zone 7 dialed

Let us know how it the zone 7 works out if you get it.

Wore the Asio set yesterday morning. Forecast was for a low of 40 and I wanted to sorta test it so I wore a light base layer, the first lite furnace top, and the jacket up top and a light base and the pants bottom. When I got out of the truck it was 35. The wind was 5 or less all morning. Fully expected to be chilled but was perfectly comfortable all morning. The beanie was really toasty. The gloves are early to mid season if your hands have to stay out of your pockets. That said the jacket pockets are really nice. I never wear a glove on my shooting hand once up the tree and didnt even sorta come close to needing a hand warmer in my the pocket to keep my hand warm. No issues with noise but I didnt try to draw on a deer even though I had a couple shot opps. Prolly should have done that but really dont feel like there will be a problem there with slow dilberate movements. Overall, very pleased. With different layering I dont think it would be a stretch for this to work fine down into the mid 20's for me.

Yeah the Asio jacket pockets are money, really toasty. I have the bibs, but once the lows touch about 35 that’s when I want an insulated jacket for longer sits. Then just add another layer on the bottom. That set for $300 was a really good deal you got.
