Just saw this on the Archery Talk YT channel listening to Nate from AJA discuss what he knows. Too bad. I never owned an Athens but those who have seemed to like them. It was a NY based Archery Manufacturer too so that’s too bad for the employees as well.

They did it to themselves. Copy Bowtechs intellectual property. Ignore a cease and desist letter…. Wonder why they are getting sued…

Pull the poor me card.

Gimme a break.

I thought their tuning system seemed very similar to Bowtech’s. Does seem like they had poor corporate counsel if that’s the case. Bowtech’s seems to be getting nasty though firing Gillingham and that other dude. What’s going on in Eugene?

Huge talk about it. But it does seem that the tuning system essentially does the same as BT but does it in a different way.

The axle is threaded. That’s what’s covered under the patent.
There is a huge discussion about the patent on AT and that’s what came up. I have no idea if the interpretation is right or wrong. The guy looked at the system and said it works differently.

Aw man. Bummed to hear this! They're really nice bows, super current tech or not

There was a lot of hates towards Bowtech during the initial reactions. But once people let the emotion calm down, most are siding with Bowtech. The whole things was more complicated then big company picking on the little guy. That people are letting recent Bowtech actions affecting their viewpoints.

Was closed to purchasing an Athens a few years ago before I switch to traditional bows, they offered 25% military discount which was pretty dang good. But ignoring a cease letter and closing business without letting dealers know was kind of shady.

I rather see notifying dealers and the general public at the same time as being transparent.
I can see that point and its very valid. Its like insider trading where you don't want dealers trying to unload stocks before the value nose dive. But that's going to happen regardless. Athens bows are going to be discounted, but dealers are going to have PARTS that they can't move.

The dealers were left holding the bag with inventory they can’t do anything with. They were still shipping orders to the dealers.

Now the dealers have to try selling bows without warranty or replacement parts. Likely for cost or less.

Yeah, the whole thing stinks. But a single announcement protects consumers. Right thing to do, IMO.

It appears that Mathews Archery tried to settle with Bowtech prior to the lawsuit. It’s hard for me to believe that Athens’ corporate counsel wouldn’t have suggested some kind of resolution or settlement offer prior to shuttering its doors. Obviously, hardball begets hardball. In the end, it’s best for all consumers to have options. There is now one less option.

It is sort of mind boggling that Athens wouldn't be certain they were ok before bringing their system to market. I'm curious what is going to happen with mountain view products.
