Battle Belt with DIY Lineman Belt for SitDrag/Wraptor/etc

I am way overthinking safety? How is that possible? A sling is the lightest piece of equipment you are likely to find.

Your using a RCH, want fall rates belt in your sitdrag and battle belt with leg loops? At least that’s what I thought I read I’ll go back and look.
What i mean is with the battle belt you won’t need a belt on your sit drag at all. As a matter of fact if you want you could carry it in a pouch until you hit hunting height

I haven't tried climbing in mine either, but soon as I get my bridge sorted out I think the idea of running a bungee between the rings to pull it together like a belt is how I'll start. And I plan to use a modified turkey vest to carry gear, platform and sticks. But if any of that plan turns out to be less than fully intelligent, then this battle belt mod is where I'm headed next.

Side note kids: don't split your attention between tv and your amsteel bridge splicing project or you might cut your only spare piece of amsteel too short to splice, like an idiot might do, and have to wait on a new order to get testing.

@KelvinM12 and I are using a small bungee cord between the rings as a belt on our Wraptors for both walking around and while climbing. It didn't work as well for Barry, so he is looking at other options, including possibly spot sewing a tied tubular webbing linesman hookup that is further apart from the rings . We are using the rings for our linesmen rope and a 1/4" amsteel fixed bridge. The beauty of this and what @DanO is doing is this is not a one size fits all deal, so you can tweak this system to your liking easily. No rules, except don't skimp on the safe stuff!

I'll admit, I was skeptical when @Bwhana mentioned this to me. I already had a piece of belt and plastic buckle sewed to the Wraptor to hold things in place. I thought the bungee cord idea was a little elementary. However, he was right! Once I tried it, I cut my belt off on the spot. It was such a simple and easy idea, but for me, accomplished everything I needed it for in holding it on my waist, flexibility while climbing or sitting, and simply not being in the way as much as that belt, buckle, and straps. You just never know until you try something.

I've used a RCH so far in my climbs but I was wanting to set up this sit drag I bought. The picture I posted shows a sit drag and nylon belt only. The plastic buckle would not prevent a release on a fall so I added the dyneema sling to keep the buckle together. I have a rock clmbing book and in 1998 a climbing belt alone was sufficient to keep you alive on a fall. The other thing I posted about was leg loops to keep it in place. These I would consider optional if trying to stay alive in a fall. I thought the OPs belt was now part of the harness and would not be added after climbing.

Honestly I wouldn’t limit it to DIY I think I would still use it with a Mantis or kite. I haven’t used it with the Kestrel I think it all together would be too bulky

I think you are correct. I just started playing with this setup and I think it's better than just the Mantis. I like keeping the weight on my hips, and keeping the LB loops in the same spot. I like that the saddle can move independently. I'm finding I don't even want to use the leg loops, as my pics show.

I'll try to get better pictures, but I am essentially doing the same as Dano, as far as hanging the saddle off of the battlebelt.

Looks like I will be remaking my LB based on Dano's pics!

EDIT: With this setup I think I would be just as happy with a sitdrag as I am with a Mantis. Which is interesting because the price point is way lower.

This is so simple it borders on genius. Does the bungee always stay connected and just expands out of the way when you move?

These are just about 8 inches and 1/8" diameter with a steel hook on each ed, bought them at Academy. I personally wrap between the rings 3x for walking, then loosen to 2 wraps for climbing, then move to just hooked on each loop while hunting. It all depends on your waist line as to how many wraps and how tight you want it, but you can also tie a knot and shorten it to customize it as needed too. I think I posted a pic of it in the Wraptor thread before. Mine is the minimalist approach only.

Again, this is not to take away from what @DanO came up with, his is great and provides a back rest and ease of carrying other items as well, so you get a lot of extra features that way too.

Do you use a pack since you are using this set up? i quit using a pack and put on an extra pouch for a snack, drink and kill kit. I sling my weapon, and sticks, this works great early season

Just curious, but doesn't this add significant bulk and weight to the Wraptor, which are some of the major advantages of the system? This seems like a concerted step back toward the more traditional saddle platform. Thoughts @DanO?
If you use the molle and add a pouch or two you wont need a pack of any kind. I use mine like this early season kinda an all in one

I only just started playing with this on sunday, but it’s interesting to note that the two sys haulers in the picture are loaded with 5 squirrel steps, 7 cranfords plus my tether. That leaves the pouch on the back for lots of things!

So yeah, I can see the potential!

I would be super glad to.assist in modeling absolutely and you are welcome
