Best bow strings

I have catfish customs and really like em. The owner of Long Range Archery in Michigan did not recommend them, saying they stretch. He said I should have bought gas or abb. To each their own I guess.

I have a several thousands of shots on my set of catfish stings. No stretch at all. You buy with confidence from a guy that work extremely hard to make everything perfect.

Nobody's talkin price here. What's a really good set of strings go for nowadays? Or do I really wanna know?
Dude at the bow shop said for the abb platinum set fully installed is $180.. lol half the price of my Bear Species LD

Used to only use buckslayer strings but he quit making them. Tried gas this year and honestly I’m not real impressed. My next set will be from threadz.

You guys ain't helpin much :tearsofjoy:
I feel your pain. I did a lot of research on new strings last year and settled on Catfish. I spent 90 bucks on them and the bow tech said he'd recommend never buying them again because they stretch. I put 200 shots thru them and had my peep and d loop re-tied. After shooting throughout the season I have to rotate my peep before every shot because of peep rotation, and my d loop is rotated. I have to believe it is from stretching. I still like the strings and hopefully I can find a competent bow tech to get my peep and d loop straightened out. Someday I will be my own bow tech and won't deal have to deal with another bow shop as long as I live.

I got a set of 60x on sale over Black Friday for 70$ I’m not good enough to notice a difference but 70$is 70$

Most top-shelf strings are made from a just a few different BCY bowstring fibers. There are other options, but BCY is what I see being used in this market.

There may be slight differences in procedure, but at the top end they are mostly very similar and well put together.

Problem is pre-stretched strings taken off the jig will recompress some. Podium Archer has a good video on why he requires you to ship your bow to him, for this reason:

I’ve installed half a dozen sets of strings built by archeryshack in the past few years and have had zero issues. He used to post on archery talk - still might - and his prices are lower than anyone else I’ve seen.

I also installed a set of catfish customs on a bow about 6 weeks ago and had to twist absolutely nothing to get the bow in spec and shoot a bullet hole with a bareshaft through paper. Sample size of 1 but I was pretty impressed.

I use catfish custom and JBK out of Maine. Both great guys and top quality strings. My Bowtech CPXL is sporting a set of JBK that are 4 years old and just now need replaced. Been tuned one time. The Catfish strings are Vec99 and the JBK 452x. I just bought a PSE Omen and will be replacing those strings in the coming weeks and I’ll be going with John’s Customs for that one. Nothing wrong with spreading out just to see who’s the best.

Same here. I set today aside to tune… been sitting by the wood stove instead.

I had a bow with Breathn’s strings a few years ago. They were a work of art.

Interesting all this talk about catfish strings stretching. I put mine on and shot it so many times I wore out a new morell target and some others and my peep and D loop haven’t moved.

Odd. I've had 4 sets of Catfish strings and never had a problem with stretch, I wonder what's different between my bows and yours.

They bow tech said I might get peep rotation since I have a single cam bow. I don't know enough about bows yet to know if that is true. After watching some of Dudley's videos I think my d loop was tied like crap so maybe that's why it has rotated on me.
