Bolt action

If I'm pre setting, no big deal. If I'm hunting a preset tree, I'm only carrying 6 bolts. No problem with noise. I probably anticipated a problem that didn't exist.

@WHW what do you use as a coating? Plastidip?

Yes, Plastidip.

This is the original and my first Woodpecker drill purchased in 1983. Jerry Simmons recommended cutting half of the threads off to make the bolt as strong as possible. I no longer do that.

What is the diameter and length of these bolts ? Where us a good source to get them? Thank you.

I preset 5 trees today. The drill and bolt on the first two went quick and slick. On the next 3 I used bolts only for the first six then went with screw-ins. Those kicked my butt. Used the nifty little tool too but standing on one foot then the other while screwing in steps and navigating limbs wore me out. Still 2 or 3 o. That property I want to prep, but, another day. Don't want to make any mistakes being tired.

Hang from a tether instead of a linesman belt... it helps with the alternated step levels fatiguing your legs.

Also, don’t try to use flexseal instead of plastidip.... flexseal tips and tears off.

Great idea.

I was hanging my cordless from my harness. It has a clip on it for hanging from a belt or pocket.
those clips are ok, but if it ever lets ya down, go buy a monster hook...or HD/Lowes knockoff

This cordless is probably 25 years old. It's a pretty solid unit. A little heavy, but its been working great on trees so far.

ha I don't know what kind of clips that thing has on it then.
Must have a car battery on the bottom of it....25 years

lithium ion....that thing isn't from the early 90s ... less than 10 years old

but yeah that's the clip I was thinking of anyways. Monster hook it

I bought this thing when I was building my studio in 1992. It was a floor model.

maybe you upgraded the battery at some point? I don't remember lithium ion drill batteries even early 2000s

I don't recall, but it's possible.

You guys not leaving bolts in the trees you prep? This past season was my first year saddle hunting and didn’t get into until around August so I didn’t prep any trees. So I’m bout to start now for next season. I always figured screw in steps or bolts in tree and leave em in tree. How many bolts you using to get to hunting height?

To add to my last comment, I would plan on pulling the bolts at the end of the season and re prep the tree the following year. I’m just curious if you’re leaving them in for the season or taking them with you in and out each time. , and like I mentioned number of bolts you use per tree
