Bow hoist?

The new Summit gear hoist is more compact and lighter weight than the Doyle's. I would strongly recommend it over all the rest.

LOL, go to Amazon and do a search for Doyles Hoist and then look at "Customers who bought this item also bought":
  • Wild Country Ropeman
  • Molle drawstring dump pouch
  • Samson rope splicing kit
  • Qliplet/Qlipter
  • BoatBuckle strap
  • HME Products Accessory belt
  • Petzel Attache Hera Screw Lock Carabiner
Does everyone at SaddleHunter shop at Amazon and no one else?? :D

I like this one better:

Furniture Brackets, caribiners and Eberhart books.... Its what Saddle Hunters Do.

Just checked out the summit. Do you think it’s really better than the Doyle. I’m def looking to get an auto retracting hoist.

I know it's much more compact and lighter. I had the Doyle and switched to the Summit late last year. I've owned them all and I like the summit the best.

I have the summit hoist and don’t like how loud it is when retracting. I’m currently using some spear gun cord with small carabiners on each end. It works ok but was hoping it wouldn’t tangle as easy but it still does. 550 cord will probably be my go to

I like simple...paracord and a rubber coated snagging hook

I like simple...

Agree, I like simple too.

But...

My time F'ing with gear getting in/out of the tree is very valuable. I'm often burning sleep time and vacation time during these important minutes. I cart the heavy Doyles hoist around because it's worked flawlessly so far, even after terrible hunts where I chucked it 25' up because I was too cold to mess with the clip. The thing still works.

There is a hole in the market for gadgets that AUTOMATICALLY manage pullup ropes/straps that aren't so heavy.

I like that, do you “fish” your gear up after you’re set?

Yes. It's not bad. And helps retrieve dropped items. There are posts on here of others creating loops with reflective tape. And reflective tape on the treble hook. Makes it possible in the dark with a red light as well.

I completely understand that. For me it was cheap, easy, and multi-use. Not only a hoist, but a retriever and a branch mover as well.

And with the plastic cord wrap I didn't have any issues with tangling. To each their own...I've had a Doyle's in the cart on numerous occasions! Just never pulled the trigger cause I have a system that has worked for me

Is it heavy enough to not sway real bad?

I've always used paracord. I might look into some of the retractable ones though. Do they guys using the retractable ones climb with your pack on and just hoist the bow or do they handel the bow and pack?
I don't use a retractable one, but I wait until I am all stable in the tree and then lower a grappling hook down to retrieve my bow and pack separately.

I put orange nite ize ties on each item so it is easy to see and easy to hook since you can shape the ties into a big loop.

Where did you get your grappling hook? Most of the ones I found on amazon look like garbage lol. Unless you’re a ninja then they might be cool

I used this one and really liked it until I was using it to pull some branches back to tie off in my stand, and my knot came untied. The hook shot off into the woods. I decided to not pay that much again for something that was so easily lost.

I then made a few using a really big fishing treble hook and a lead sinker. Without the weight, it drifted around too much in the wind.

I'll see if I can take some pictures later.
