Bow hoist?

I use a Doyle's for gear hoist but it doubles as a retriveal line for my climbing line after rappelling out.

People having tangled line problems. Try when stowing line figure 8 it on your finger’s instead of coiling this should help with tangles

Allen Company makes a retractable hoist with 2 ways to attach the hoist to a pack or stand. I picked one up last month pretty cheap and will be using it this year.

Double check your connection on that Allen. The clip on mine(the bow end of the rope) broke bow dropped about 20 ft. I replaced it with a small beaner works great. That was 3 or 4 years ago might have addressed the problem just saying

Thanks. It does have a small clip on it but also some pretty hefty velcro I was going to attach to my pack

There was a thread on here and the guy was complaining that the Summit hoist makes a clicking noise as it retracts...

That may or may not have been me that started a thread about the summit making noise. The recoil type spring is noisy IMO... but then I've also not had a chance to compare it against a doyles. I was able to pull apart the housing and evaluate any potential fixes.. there are none that I can tell.
Its also entirely possible I'm just being a little too anal and the retract noise is negligible compared to me walking in/ climbing anyways.
I just like everything to be silent.... cant help myself!

I know it's much more compact and lighter. I had the Doyle and switched to the Summit late last year. I've owned them all and I like the summit the best.

Since you've had both... does the doyles make noise too when retracting? Hows it compare to the summit in that regard. I understand the summit is slightly more compact and a few oz lighter.

The hook came from Bass Pro. I don't recall which size I purchased, but here's the link: https://www.basspro.com/shop/en/bas...ns&gclid=CJDtvsKb9NwCFb2KxQId7moEFw&gclsrc=ds

I clipped off the tips/points of the hooks with side cutters and bent the barbs down with pliers. Then used tool handle dip to coat it. I did 3 coats if I remember correctly...and waited half hour to an hour between each one. Here's the dip:

I also found the cord wrap at Menards near the rope/bungees. Link here:

Thanks! I thought you might have dipped it. That’s a great idea. This will be my first year hunting with a saddle. My kestrel was delivered 2 days ago. Making other changes this year too, including your hook idea.

I didn’t find the thread about the summit noise, but in it I said it wasn’t so noisy that it bothered me. But after a couple test climbs, I’ve changed my mind and wouldn’t recommend the summit. The noise seems to have increased with use, and on a few occasions a slight bumb seemed to cause the internal spool to spin freely and noisily.
