I've seen a few YouTube videos on using the straps only (buckles removed) to fasten sticks with a versa button to the tree. One referenced LWCG site for a video but I cannot find it anywhere. Does anyone have experience with this technique? Is it secure with 100% confidence. Video for proper technique?

Thanks.

I know that this will be the single dumbest question in the history of inquisitive idiots with internet access, but what straps are used for this?

Any strap that has a sewn eye and a reasonable breaking strength. Do you have a hawk helium strap hanging around? You can pull the end not sewn into the buckle, free from buckle and use it.

Matt Garing (sp?) of OOAL Manufacturing has a good video on his youtube channel on this excellent technique. He uses the 5/8" mini straps that you can get with the Shikars. I used them with this technique at the beginning of the season (until I started one sticking with my muddy pro with the cam cleat) and they all held well and solidly. As stated above any climb rated strap with a sewn eye should work.

Here's a video on the Shikar but it goes over the buckleless system right away with their 5/8" mini strap. Works great!!

I’ve used the hawk helium straps. They are a little short but plenty secure. On average more secure than a daisy chain.

They seem short but I have yet to choose a tree that I couldn’t get the sticks on with this method. Even some fatty test trees, beyond the size I would hunt from made it.

To OP: been using this method for a year or so since Nutterbuster posted that video. I’ve placed a stick countless times and never had an issue. I can’t say the same about daisy chains. This method gets an A+ from me.

I’ve got three 8’ daisy chains on my hawk minis. On my fourth I use the buckleless strap. Only once this year did I hunt a tree too big for it. I was able to use it as my top stick but could only get one wrap on the versa button.

OOAL?

I used sticks for several years with the exact method that Nutterbuster shows in that video. Never had any issues at all

I’ve used the buckless method for 2 years on hawk helium’s now problem

You'll need to be able to sew a loop as I'm not sure how well this stuff would do knotted, but it's strong and weighs nothing and is the best I've found for the buckleless method. I actually prefer using this over rope or cam cleats or anything else if I'm using multiple sticks.

I’m using the strap at the link below.
Im using on my “one-stick” 14” lone Wolf stick with an angled scout on top and a double step with a 3 step aider on bottom. No issues so far with it.

Here’s the setup I’m using it on.

Would 5/8" webbing work? If so, any resources where I can buy the right strength?
