If an entire sheriffs department and the Army guard can’t find one man hiding in the trees and One eyed willie hid his treasure there for that long and only Chester Copperpot got close, than imagine how hard it is to hunt? Maybe that’s why the hunting pubics I mean public are scared to go there too.
And they say that ghost of Lucious Clay gets up and he walks around...

Welcome to saddle hunting, Oregon Guy!

As some have already mentioned, everyone is built different so a saddle recommendation from someone is not the best way to figure out what is best for you. There are some great saddles out there, single panel AND two-panel, and the ONLY way to know what will work best for you is to buy it and try it and return it if it's not the one. By doing that you will eventually land of the saddle you love.

In order to find my first saddle I bought 5 saddles and tested each one until I found the one for me. That is truly the best way to do it. If you have any questions along the way this is a great place to ask them. Lots of great guys with tons of experience.

I‘m pretty sure I remember when you were selling your “demoed” saddles, priced very fairly. It’d be interesting to know the monetary delta between purchase vs sale, at the time.

There’s so many saddles on the market now, it‘s much more overwhelming and I think classifieds are trending towards more hit and miss.

I‘m not disagreeing with you on how to find the most fitting saddle, but the scope of options and resale opportunities may be shifting towards something less favorable.

Very few “try them all” no matter what they say, but you actually have tested a multitude. I respect your restraint, but would hope for a little more nonetheless.

I think your mobile saddle tour is a phenomenal answer.

But there’s us who just can’t make it. It’ll be cool if you can document “results” from the tour…even if we both know a few minutes in a saddle is often too short a story and a work of fiction.

Sounds like you probably have some climbing equipment already. If you have a climbing harness that you are comfortable in it when suspended, you might want to try going up a tree with it using whatever climbing method you are comfortable with. See if you like the view and decide if you want to buy specialized saddle hunting equipment. There are many options, If you decide to invest in saddle equipment, I would suggest you look at two panel or expanding saddles as they offer more adjustability for comfort. Lots of good stuff on the market.
My climbing harnes would make you cringe lol. Weighs about 7.5lbs. And it's loud.

Yeah I took a loss for sure but it wasn't terrible and it allowed me to test them out. Shoot, 5 saddles cost me over $1,000 so it was a costly test. lol I think I'd do it different today and check out the return policy for each manufacturer and return them vs. selling them used on the classifieds.

I still think hands-on (butt in the saddle) is the best way to know even with the market being covered up. It might just take a little longer if your desire is to try them all. I'd go into it with the attitude of "the first saddle that feels good is it" and I can test the others out some other time. Then pick 2-3 of the most recommended saddles (with a return policy) and start there. Just my thought on it.

I wish the saddle tour wasn't just something I was doing on the side and that I could actually travel around with the tour being my priority. Then I could be more intentional about getting to more places to allow guys to try them. But you can only do what you can do. lol The funny thing about the results is that each saddle has had its share of dislikes and likes based on the different body types trying them. It is interesting to see how guys can tell right away if a saddle is even a possibility when they go from one to the next. Several guys went back to 1-2 saddles again to see what worked best and could actually narrow it down. Pretty cool.

That’s a great idea
Maybe we can develop a saddle shipping exchange system so that people can try saddles. I’m sure it’s possible to develop a foolproof trial system.
Thats a great idea as long as everyone is honest. My concern would be scammers, similarly to the “classifieds” scammers guys run on here. It would suck to buy something and try to let someone else try it out so you could try theirs and it end up being a scammer

I think there are easy ways to deal with that such as an escrow account. If the saddle doesn’t go back to the maker or lender there are already funds in an account to pay for it.

I agree. That would be my biggest fear.

I like the idea but agree with what FL Canopy Stalker mentioned. It would just be hard to track and monitor something like this. Especially with multiple saddles.
