Changing out my Lineman's belt, tether, and bridge to Oplux.

You can shorten the distel - I've seen some pics with really long ends going to the carabiner. You can possibly shorten your bridge too. I run a little higher tether and don't have an issue with the TRC distel.

@DanO what would you recommend for a starting length for the TRC distel prior to the knots?

Start with 3-3.5’ and then trim the tails after getting everything dressed properly and shortened up.

I just got three 10' sections of oplux and three 3' sections of TRC. I previously got a 4' section of the trc and it is just a tad long. Personally I thought I screwed up with 3' sections. After tying a double fisherman's know it ties into the scwabisch hitch easily. So now I have a tether and Lineman's belt that after tying a figure 8 I have 8'. Perfect. I replaced the bridge on the flex with the last 10' of oplux and tied the last friction hitch. Works perfectly...I tested it in my basement and swung from the rafters. I might be able to go hunt tomorrow...might...it's my son's 15th birthday tomorrow.

IF I could do it again...I'd order 3.5' for the friction hitches.

Thanks man i know i have enough trc just wanted to make sure i cut it to the right length.

What knot is preferred for the distel hitch? I was tying angler knot/perfect loops whatever you call them.

A 3’ length of 6mm TRC was the perfect length for the Distel hitch using double fisherman knots to attach to caribeener. This length works for 8mm Oplux. This should give you the shortest length of hitch. The double fisherman knots have not slipped any after 3 or 4 hunts. I have around 1” of rope extending past the double fisherman knot. Make sure and dress and tighten your knots. I do check all my connections before, during, and after the hunt. The hitch tenders that @DanO sells make adjusting these hitches a true one handed operation although I still prefer the Kong Duck on my lineman’s belt because it does adjust a little easier and gets adjusted a lot more than the tether and bridge.

Poachers knot or double fisherman’s??

From my research, they are the same knot. A lot of the knots and hitches seem to have several different names. The double fisherman’s knot seems to be the more common name so I choose to use it.

Okay, not arguing. Just everything I see on double fisherman’s knot the tag end runs away froM the standing end and that is no good for our uses.

Ok. Curious as to what we should use? I’m asking because I don’t have a parachute in my hunting tote.

You may have a point. When tying two ends of a rope together, you would tie two separate double fisherman knots on each tag end. For a single loop on one end of the rope you still tie the same double fisherman knot which might be best called a poacher knot since it probably was used for making snares. There is a single fisherman knot that I would not use for what we do, so I always want to emphasize the double.

I have tied all my loops with the double.

I went and checked animated knots and @Squirrel is correct that I should just call the loop on one end of a rope used for the Distel a “Poacher’s Knot”. The way it is tied is the same as tying the double fisherman knot. Go to animatedknots.com and search for poacher and it will show exactly how to do it. It is the go to knot for a lot of applications.

I was just trying to make sure the info was correct. Lots of new people around and they need to understand proper knots and application as to not kill themselves over a knot!!

I can tie the knots and hitches I use with my eyes closed (but verify with my eyes open), but I need to make sure I use the proper names used on animatedknots.com so they can readily search for them and see exactly how they are tied and read up on the purposes of those knots and hitches to make an informed decision on whether to use them or not.

I used 5.5mm Beal cordelette for my distel on both my linemans and my tether.

What knots are you using to tie Oplux to your bridge loops when using it for a bridge?

I took the oplux and put one end of the rope through my bridge loop. Then tied an overhand knot. Tied a stopper knot next to the overhand and it seems to work great.
