Cheap alternative saddle

I found this alternative saddle on Amazon. I was using a regular light rock climbing harness and it lacked loops for lineman's belt. I think this will be a cheaper alternative. I am using modded out hawk sticks to get up.

YXGOOD Treestand Harness, Tree Working Safety Belt, Climbing Harness For Garden Art Clip, Tree Clip, Firefighting On Tree https://www.amazon.com/dp/B011K7FUUG?ref=yo_pop_ma_swf

Thoughts and comments appreciated.

Are you pairing it with something like a Sitdrag?

Sent from my Galaxy S8.
I probably will just for the comfort factor. I want to see how comfortable it is with a back supporter first and go from there. It's a pretty heavy duty arborist harness.

My buddy has this exact harness. I hunted from it last year, but i could only tough it out a couple of hours without a sit drag. You'll have to do something about the lineman's loops, the metal on metal contact is pretty loud.

if you are using a sitdrag, sew on a simple webbing belt to keep it on you and just use the sitdrag for your linemans belt loops.

I recently switched to one of these harnesses paired with a sitdrag

because I liked those kestrel buckles and hated getting my old rc harness on over hunting layers.

This combo is pretty sweet. Poor man's kestrel, but probably a little more versatile having a belay loop

Looks good to me but I am new to this. Why do you say you wouldn’t use it?
For 59 bucks its made in china, I dont climb with uncertified gear. If youre using a sit drag with it, Get a rc harness as their cheaper and easy to use with a drag. Last place you want to find out something isnt correct/safe is up in the air 30 ft off the ground.

Thats a sequoia knockoff. Heres the real tested one.

Theres a reason why that one costs 60 bucks compared to the petzl which is 450 bucks.

Where does it say this one ain’t tested?

It's pricetag! I looked on the site and couldn't find it meeting any ASTM or EN Standards! Heck 2 of my eye to eye hitch cords cost more than that entire harness alone, That's a red flag to me!

Oh, so it’s you opinion that it isn’t tested as it don’t say either way in the ad.

All tested harnesses have technical specs that state their certifications. So its not my opinion its year and years of climbing experience that taught me that stuff made in china is unsafe to climb with. Climbing equipment is not the place to cut corners. It takes 1 fall to kill you, Anything above 12 ft (trauma line) can cripple you permanently or worse kill you. Falling from 30 feet is no joke.

Complying with certifications costs money...what is more likely: they are made to standards meeting or exceeding certifications but forgot to mention them, or the harness was made to look like one that costs 8x as much but hasn't been tested to meet common safety and industry standards?

The difference in price between this product and a kestrel is less than the average price of an ambulance ride... I like coming up with DIY solutions but when you add in the various components you buy...you could just have a pre made solution.

Idk my black diamond rock climbing harness is certified and I think it was $30 should I be worried?

It all comes down to you and what you'll decide what's safe for your comfort level.
I would still suggest climb rated rope, and hardware. And if using a personally made saddle/sling, back it up with a rc harness please.

You're talking about a minimalist harness thats sold by the tens of thousands, Its going to be cheap!

So the price of testing and certification is dependent on how many units they sell? How many of these knock offs I wonder they will sell? How many Krestel’s will they sell they are half price of the pretzl you posted the link to. I hope the sell tens of thousands to recoup there certification money.

I wonder about my sitdrag? Maybe with all the sells they have been generating they can get there’s certification for use off the ground.
