I broke a stand off off a steel stick, that looks to be 1/2” square tube bent at a 90*. It was an old Guide Gear stick I use in my urban areas with a cheap lock on for theft reasons. Anyway, if I use a 1/2” rigid 90 in its place do you think it would work? I’ll use it as the bottom step so as not to kick out in mid air.

Those standoffs on sticks and ladders are either welded on or bolted on so as long as you do it one way or the other should be fine.

What exactly is a 1/2" rigid 90?

You are welding or bolting the new stand off to what size and thickness tube?

Sorry, a 90 degree elbow made out of rigid steeI conduit. I would bolt it to the step so the bolt went through the center of the bend. It’s kind of what the original stand off looked like but it was square tube.I don’t think it would really matter.

A neighbor of mine use to make climbing stands out of conduit pipe. He would braze the pieces together. It made a good stand and was plenty strong. Those standoffs aren't under that much of a load and you shouldn't have any problems with the conduit pipe standoffs.

We had(still laying around somewhere actually) an old hang on made out of 1/2" conduit, self tapping screws and some kind of steel strapping that supported the lead edge of the platform. It held my 240#s so I suspect a standoff will be fine. Always test at ground level of course....

To play devil's advocate... if the metal was so fatigued the standoff broke, maybe the rest of the stick isn't in much better shape. Pre-season sales should have Muddy rails and Big Foot sticks for not too terribly much.

It became fatigued due to the fact a 2500 Duramax ran over it. It will be the bottom step, and it only effected the bottom stand off so the furthest I’d fall would be about 20”.
