On the recommendation of
@Robert loper and others on this site, I now own 4 tasco trail cameras from walmart. I put 2 of them out in June and just got them last week. Not only did they capture a lot of shooters in that period, they were both still snapping pictures after basically 6 months in the field using standard alkaline batteries. I will probably keep adding more of these to my fleet as I see them on sale etc. For 30$, I dont really even worry too much about getting them stolen. I have 2 still out on video mode, which I am looking forward to checking out the results as what I have seen is that it does pretty well there too.
The only downside is if you have a Mac like I do the jpg photo format can't be read with your regular software. I find a free app called Movavi Photo Editor that lets me check the cards with ease however. Its a pain but worth it to me for the price of the cameras and their extremely functional design and operation.
Cheap and definitely get the job done!
