CLASSIFIED SCAMMERS

How did he gain it? Crypto software? Log in on a public puter? Through tap talk???
 
This scam seemed pretty targeted. I’m not saying it’s an inside job, but the thief hacked a trusted member that would reasonably have several saddles and known to be price friendly. Also the thief called out the modification with pictures.

A lot different from the run of the mill new member unloading hard to get saddles for a too good to be true price.

He didn't pull it out of thin air. He copied an old listing with pics and changed the price. Another member picked up on it and messaged us. Unfortunately, just a little too late to help some. Including me :pensive:

I think he just got lucky choosing a well known member that has a reputation of being generous. But if the member that reported it wouldn't have put us on notice it could have been worse.
 
Just another reason why to play it safe and pay using the Goods and Services. 3% could save you more than 3% if you get scammed.

  1. If I send paypal friends and family I verify that the persons profile pic is of the person. If they have no pic at all I get sketched out.
  2. I also look out for .aol .hotmail .bellsouth or any other old internet/email providers. Most people have transitioned to gmail/outlook/ etc.
  3. I also take my time with the transaction. Anyone that is in a hurry sketches me out.
  4. If the deal is too good to be true, it probably is. If the deal is too good to be true times 5 kites, it probably is.

It sucks that they took advantage of one of our most generous members. I guess that's why it was so easy to believe. Sucks they were able to mess with some of our great mods too. Sorry to all of yall that were screwed out of your hard earned cash.

Yea, I think that "old listing" might have been pictures of the first saddle I ever bought?

I still have the rope from the bridge...

Have you guys ever seen this before? I mean this is next level stuff, usually the scammers are more obvious, this would get anybody, I really enjoy the classifieds here and **** like this just plain sucks, so what’s the solution, goods and services, I hate goods and service because of paypal sending out tax statements now, so I have been told, but it is what it is I guess, would goods and services prevented something like this?
 
Something else I noticed which was the reference to a fletch quote which was a nice touch of humor.

Reminds me of this office quote:

When the son of the deposed King of Nigeria e-mails you directly asking for help, you help. His father ran the freaking country, okay?

Yeah with goods & services you can dispute the transaction that’s why they charge the 3%. So if someone has more than 1 of anything I’d ask for pics of all of them. This scam evolved & the OP kept editing the Post as he got buyers adding to the listing
