Collaborating for Leg Loops

After seeing a review on an aerohunter evo I gotta ask. Why wasn’t it more popular? It looks awesome to me.

@smcchevy We're standing by for your detailed report. ;)

You got it @Red Beard . I haven't got a confirmation email yet and they had limited sizes/ colors. It would be nice to gain some comfort in the "L-shape rappel position" since im rocking a phantis. ....if only i could afford what @always89y makes....

just get an aero hunter evo.

I really love what @always89y is doing here, its like a flex/phantom with evo-esk modular leg supports. I have limited seat time in saddles but the "Sally saddle" was the most comfortable saddle I've experienced.

Yeah that may be uncomfortable. Still thinking through this. The Misty Ultralight Urban Sit Kit still looks amazing though.

I guess the use case would be something like... You'd use the belt as your regular pants belt and stuff the leg loops in a cargo pocket. We're always talking about don't climb a tree unless "the sign is hot". Something like this would certainly keep weight down if you were just walking around. Then @always89y could fashion up an uber-small fleece or mesh bag that doubled as a saddle (think packable hammock). Leg loops go into the packable saddle hammock, and that package goes into a pocket.

Funny thing is, my primary and backup saddles ARE Evos! :tearsofjoy:
I have a size 2 evo which I tucked and sewed to make it a size 1. It's still pretty heavy but it is comfortable.

its not sexy. It takes effort to get it dialed in - but once done so it’s more comfortable than all the minimal saddles. It looks complicated. Heavy.

all relative, and mostly they didn’t market, and came up with the kestrel in short order. Then the marketing savvy took over saddle hunting.

It IS awesome! Many folks had problems getting it adjusted to satisfy them because it has just so many dern adjustment points. That, and ther Evo is pretty heavy compared to current offerings because Aero overbuilt the heck out of it.

Aero Evo video in the works. I feel the need to climb before it gets too hot today.

What’s heavy? Like Greens leather tree saddle 10lbs heavy? How much are these selling for right now?

I was thinking
Battlebelt + Dano LB + sitdrag + always89s leg loops , then I thought that’s almost exactly what the evo is haha
That surely gets you pretty freaking close I think. Improvement areas can still be made in the materials though... Walk around in a war belt for any length of time and it'll be soaked from the sweat collecting at the small of your back. Also, a sit drag is heavy for what it is; parachute material or mesh would be lighter.

Im gonna send this contraption on to @Red Beard today to give it a run down. Im not apposed to sending it on to the masses to try out...Sally style...if interested. Im a bit of a minimalist, and a sloth when it comes to climbing and set up. I also tend to stay put. To me, a leg loop is a better application for serious hang and bangers, aggressive climbers and those that hop around from tree to tree.

While this version is strong, its not pretty. Ugly, but effective stitching. It was built on the fly with little planning. You boys can throw it around, modify it to your liking and come up with something that works for your type of hunting. Just dont count on it for life support.

I don’t understand what y’all are after here.....are you trying to re-engineer your way back around to a rock climbing harness??? I assume that would work good with your new platform with a seat though.

I think what we have here is a platform scenario where by the time we are done fooling around with stuff we will be asking for something that already exists like you said a rock climbing harness or an evo haha.

I think the path is toward an evo with current mesh/lightweight materials?

Edit: I've never sat in an evo, but imagine the rappel comfort would be luxurious.

evo is comfortable because it’s heavy. Rock climbing harnesses are not comfortable for hanging because they’re light.

I think you could shave a half a pound maybe a pound off the evo, and keep most of the comfort And functionality. Seems like what you fellows are after.

minimal saddles are comfortable enough for gritty folks. That premise, and the voiced opinion of said gritty folks, is the key to the marketing success. They’re marketed to people who think they’re hardcore lightweight mobile run and gun people, and those that want to be in the cool crowd. They make no material difference in Success, total comfort, setup time, or work done to get in/hunt/get out of about 75% of the people who buy them.

The evo would be an excellent choice for 90% of people who sit most of the time. The new khunert thing, or any of the battle belt stuff, or any lower back strap type sling will be an excellent choice for people who lean 90% of the time. The marketing trick is convincing the majority of folks in the middle they NEED a minimal saddle and it will do everything they want, and make them kill more deer. Might as well put a pretty girl in one to sell them. Same thing.

don’t forget, the evo was designed by people who work in trees for a living. They know what ittakes to be comfortable and functional up there. The idea that aero hunter didn’t or doesn’t listen to hunters’ needs, and that’s why the new saddle companies exist, is hogwash. They knew what would actually give people what they were looking for when making the evo. The kestrel wasn’t pumped as the end all be all answer because they assumed it would cater to truly hardcore minimal hunters who don’t mind being a little uncomfortable. Maybe I’m wrong, but my hunch is the kestrel wasn’t intended to phase out the evo. The market got turned on its head.

It’s fun to watch everyone get creative though, because it allows us to see some of the stuff that transcends marketing propaganda.

keep it up fellers! Make me a light evo! Until then, I’ll just keep sleeping in my hybrid...

I really hate the leg loops on the JX3, this has me intrigued.
