crazy idea: torso wrap to prevent draft in saddle and mimic bibs somewhat?

I like bibs but they have a few downsides (bulky packing in, very warm walking in with them). Also, before saddle hunting, I bought some very nice pants that I no longer use saddle hunting unless it is warm (because of the up the back draft).

What about a wide torso wrap that overlaps the belt area? You could put this on at the tree (even in the tree if careful) and it would keep your layers properly tucked and be sort of like bibs.

A google search for torso wraps shows they are made for all sorts of things (post surgery, cosmetic, back support, etc).

Thoughts?

Not a crazy idea! After my last sit this year I seriously thought about reinvesting in bibs, even lightweight merino bibs for early fall.
I was layered pretty good, but the way my two-panel saddle fits I could feel a draft in my back.
Hope to see where this thread goes.

yeah I know, jacket had pockets I didn't want my saddle panel around.

Didn't think of that. Its been so long since I've had a jacket I keep stuff in. All my stuff goes in bag or pants pockets.

I did get some bibs but I’ve been thinking about this. Like a double fleece neck gaiter but for around the butt and up above the waist. I considered just cutting off a couple old fleece shirts across at the armpits and sewing the cut up. Put the cut off part down at the butt and pull the waist with elastic up towards top above the waist

Rather than the normal bibs, look at military surplus stores or places like Sportsman's guide for the fleece bibs the troops use under their ECWCS system. They work great at helping keep your midrif covered. The only ones they had were like 30" inseam or less but who cares as you have long johns on under them for your lower leg area and boots on. So I have my base layers then these bibs over my base layer then my hunting pants and hoody then my coat for most of late October through mid November hunting. Switch to heavier merino wool base layers, then the fleece bibs over these then heavier pants like cowboy sueade or whatever then a hoody or a fleece vest then your jacket. Much less bulk then normal hunting bibs. I bought two pair brand new for like $40 a couple of years ago.

This would work without many layers on. I can't imagine tucking a really thick coat or multiple layers into a saddle, but I'll try that. I'm the type that doesn't like a loose waist belt on a saddle because I worry about something happening and I come out of the thing.

Like these?

Cool idea! But, I would just buy bibs because they are great. If they are too warm then buy another pair!

eBay is the place to go. Just found a used like new in a medium short. Perfect. $13 with shipping. I’m hoping I like them because they may replace some of my other mid layer junk.

Sounds like a dress to me.....

So you want to be hanging from ropes while wearing a diaper and something like a corset waiting for your next unknowing victim to stumble beneath you? Good times.

Hey, you rappel guys are the ones that drop down like black widow spiders.

I feel your pain Raisins, I usually wear a real 100% wool shirt all season over a first lite merino base layer and I try to make sure that outer wool shirt is a XLT size so I can tuck it in deep, and I wear suspenders also to keep my pants up and the draft out.
