What are the major differences between the oplux 8mm vs. the htp 9mm? I could not find 50' of the oplux for a reasonable price...so I got the htp in 9mm. I want to use it as a rappal rope using the DRT method to rappel down once I get to height using my one stick. I know the htp is stiff, but is it like my kernmatle 11mm stiff? Will I be able to take 50' and place it in my pouch on my saddle?

Htp is a stiffer rope so it doesn’t pack up as small but it’s not bad at all the oplux is super packable, I just got both of those ropes to do some experimenting with.

That's what I found after I bought it. No bigee but will 50' of it pack up in my trophyline pouch or will I have to carry a backpack?

Which Trophyline pouch do you have, it possibly could.... the oplux could for sure I don’t think you will have a problem with 9mm htp either though.

The one with two outside pouches on either side of the main pouch.

Those are kind of big I think it might work.

If only rappelling, 50ft is way too much. I initially packed 40ft of 9mm HTP in one of @DanO 's fleece bags (which are AWESOME) but always had 15ft uselessly laying on the deck.

Cut that 50ft section down to 30 or 25ft and you'll have a way better time with it.

There's a pic on a thread here somewhere of a side by side comparison....Oplux= game changer

I appreciate that...however I want to use it as a DRT when rappeling down. I will test it out this weekend as I usually go about 22-23 feet...I'll see where the rope is on the bottom. I also want to use the rope for double duty...one side will go up as a tether to bypass branches and the end will be tied to my pack...if I need it. I guess I could just cut a 20 foot section off or cut it in half...I'd still have 25 feet and could still use it as a DRT method to rappel down.

50’ might come up a tad short for DRT and reaching 20ft (to your platform)

50’ of 9mm HTP won’t fit in a typical dump pouch but maybe in a TL pouch. Dunno that I would bother though. I think I would just coil it and carry it like a backpack or strapped to my backpack.

What makes it this? Will I be able to put it in my trophyline pouch...50'??
The stiffness can be nice for allowing knots to be untied after loading, and when used as a linemans belt can make the belt moderately easier to manipulate than a more flexible rope. the low stretch is nice for srt efficiency and controlled descent. it sheds water well. It also seems to take a really nice grip and grab as a tether - like a short term memory when loaded. On the flip side knots take slightly more line to tie easily, and to pack it you need to stuff a tad harder.

There's a heavy dose of personal preference and people declaring whatever they use as best...for so.e the grass is always greener, and for others whatever they are using is clearly the best ever.

I think I'll love the HTP 9mm...and the 6mm powercord. The powercord is rated for 4400lbs and the htp is right at 5000lbs. Plus it's a smaller package than my predator rope. I'll figure it out this weekend.

I got some PowerCord I’ve played around with it’s pretty cool stuff!

Has anyone used the Sterling 6mm TRC that Dan sells as a Prusik or Distel on the 9mm HTP rope. How do these 2 work together?

Ok...how does one cut this powercord? I cut it to make a schwabish hitch and the rope instantly frayed and then the core would not burn.

Haven't had a chance to properly hang from it, but it seems to work excellent! 4ft was enough for a properly dressed knot with plenty of tail, even with a "triple" poachers knot on the carabiner. Be warned, this was tough to cut even with my hot knife! Holy smokes!

How much smaller/lighter? I'm thinking of making the switch.
